Will You Be Forgotten?

Will You Be Forgotten?

For the last week or two, I’ve been asking myself the same question – Will I be forgotten?

I’m not talking about tomorrow, next week, or even next month. But in 10, 20, or 30 years, will I be forgotten? Will I be viewed as just an ordinary guy who did nothing great?

If you haven’t asked yourself this question yet, I really recommend you do, whether you are a webmaster, a weather man, or working the 9 to 5.

Will You Be Forgotten?

I want you to take the next ten seconds and think about that question. Will you be forgotten? If you answered “yes”, then you really need to reevaluate situation.

To become successful tomorrow, you need to work your tail-end off today. To avoid being forgotten in ten years, you need to work extremely hard now.

If you said you WILL be forgotten, then why are you wasting your time doing whatever you are doing? If all of your efforts will go to waste, why do it?

How to Avoid Being Forgotten

If you think you will be forgotten, let’s start changing it. If you are a webmaster (which I am assuming you are), make the next hottest thing on the web.

Create a fantastic design. Write amazing content. Do whatever it takes to make yourself sit on top of all of the others. Otherwise, you will be crushed by the competition and will be forgotten.

If it takes you four years of hard work, but you succeed in the end, it’s all worth it, right? If you put zero hard work in, what can you expect to get out of it? Nothing.

Another key is never giving up. Even if you work like crazy for the entire duration of your life [and don't get recognized as you wish], doesn’t mean you will end up forgotten.

Let’s take one of my favorite poets, Edgar Allen Poe, for example. He went to WestPoint (a military academy) to please the father that adopted him, and got no more than a pat on the back.

He then wrote poems for a majority of his life, which made him little to no money. No one viewed him as anything worthwhile, not even when he died. But now, about 160 years after his death, he is viewed as a literary MASTER.

He is viewed as a fantastic horror writer. During his lifetime, though, he was viewed as just a drunk. No value, what-so-ever.

Conclusion

To wrap it all up, you cannot give up. If you think you will be forgotten, CHANGE the situation and become a figure that will NOT be forgotten.

After all, what’s the point of putting time, money, and effort into your website, career, or anything else, if you will just be forgotten in ten years?

You have to be someone who is the best of your time period. Be the best in history. We still talk about ancient civilizations from over a thousand years ago.

A short post but really great!

You are absolutely right, if you don’t want to be forgotten then your work must endure the stand of time.

I will begin to work harder on giving my best in terms of content, and I will also be doing some things that will make me remembered for years to come.

Hey Joe,
This is a great topic, very motivational and has a wake-up call too.
As a webmaster, to be remembered by others needs a lot o hard work. We all can’t be excellent web designers, neither can all be excellent writers. But each of the webmasters do have some excellent qualities and he/she needs to work more on that in order to be remembered.

The worst thing you can do with an undertaking is to quit just because everything seems lost. If one really wants to succeed, then he just has to try over and over again until something positive happens. At least that is my kind of attitude.

Excellent topic, Joe! I like to think of it as leaving a legacy for those you leave behind. Whether it’s in your words, actions or how you treat other people, you will be remembered by those who know you in one way or another. It’s up to us to determine how we will be remembered and what good we can do for the time we are here. Thanks for the eye-opener and reminder.

You never really can tell. I’d say most great names didn’t become so while they were still alive.

Nothing will take you further than being connected to what you’re doing. If you love what you do–keep doing it.

You will be remembered not by what you’ve already accomplished–but by what you were trying to accomplish at the time of your death.
