Three Ways to Improve Your Blog in 2014

by Zac Johnson on December 9, 2013 · 2 comments

Everyone wants to have a successful blog that brings in new audiences and readers everyday. Unfortunately with the competition of millions of other blogs out there and being limited on time, this is not an easy task to accomplish.

With the new year right around the corner, there is no better time for you to start focusing on your blog again and making it into the powerhouse and authority site it should be. In this post we are going to cover three simple steps that every blogger should be doing to make sure their blog improves across all platforms and levels in the new year.

Blog on a Consistent Basis

One of the best ways to damage your blog is to completely forget about it and not provide new content on a consistent basis. It doesn’t matter if you blog daily, weekly or monthly… just as long as you have something in place so your audience knows when to expect new posts on your site. If you fast at writing you can throw together a whole month’s worth of posts in just a few hours and schedule them out on your blog for the next month. This is something I often do on my sites.

The Value of Blog Commenting

An excellent way to gain attention and more engagement on your blog is to make sure you reply to all of the comments left on your site. As the blog owner you might feel like you don’t need to respond to comments, but this is wrong. By replying to comments on your blog you will no only double the amount of comments on your site, but you will also be showing other people that leave comments on your site, that you appreciate their time and effort. In addition to blog commenting on your own sites, it would be a great idea for you to start leaving comments on other high authority blogs in your niche as well. Not only will this bring you a few more backlinks, but it will get more exposure and traffic for your site as well.

Create Content that People are Searching For

If you are having trouble coming up with new ideas and content for your site, then looking at the latest trends on Google is a great way to get started. If you are creative and good at writing you can spin anything that is trending across the world or going viral into a post that will relate with your audience. Take “Miley Cyrus” for example… I was able to throw together a great post on how her bad girl image and reputation is exploding her sales across all levels… and this was for a branding blog!

Blogging is serious business and since I started my blog back in 2007, it’s completed changed my personal life and business for the better. Is 2014 going to be the year that you realize the true potential of blogging?

Your article is great i hope new and old bloggers will make a list of your recommendations/trends to think about and act upon as they are able. I have been blogging for only about 15 months, but so much of what you say can save others from the mistakes I and others have made. (1) I chose to get into blogging, and am now paying $13 or so each year to maintain the old connects from to — not a lot of $ but annoying. (2) learned from reading my favorite blogs of those who were hacked and bought a monthly subscription to BlogVault to work automatically in the background to back up site and restore it if necessary.
I will be publishing my first eBook very soon and giving the book away to my subscribers. I have been trying to develop ways to garner income, but I haven’t had any success yet, except to Tweet for sponsors. I have recently added pages for advertizers and guest bloggers, so hope that helps. I plan to get to know more bloggers and network with them on social sites and by guest blogging myself. But thanks for all the great advice – I will be checking off some of this article’s items as the 2013 comes to a close. Best to you in the New Year!

I will definitely be book marking this page for future reference. In fact, I’m pretty sure that this page could make a good starting base to its own blog about starting blogs!
