Welcome back to the YouTube Series here on TechNShare. I know you have been excitedly waiting for the next installment in the series, like a kid at Christmas, I know. Last week we discussed tips to optimize YouTube videos. So this week we are going to talk about the number one way to increase YouTube video views.
Build Your Links
When it comes to YT videos, building your links is not exactly the same as building backlinks to your blog. I can compare this process to internal linking on your blogs.
When you link one article to another on your blog, or link an article to another page on your blog, you are building internal links. You are deep linking your blog.
The number one way to increase views on your videos is to build your links. You do this by inter-linking your videos together. This practice will work for linking videos and your channel. You are also able to show some link love to colleagues as well.
How To Link YouTube Videos
This is so easy to do. No, really it is…would I mislead you?! So, here we go. Let’s take Ana Hoffman as our example. Ana’s YouTube channel is at a PR 6. Yes, I know I know, the little green fairy dust doesn’t mean anything. However, let’s pretend that it does, because in all actuality, it does in the SERPS.
The beauty of this PR 6 is that based on her keywords, Ana will rank higher in the SERPS than a blog with lower ranking. As a matter of fact, Ana is on the first page of Google for “youtube embed code options.” And that is out of 23,000,000 results as of this writing.
With that in mind, she should optimize her channel page featured video. Since featured videos can be set to autoplay, we know it’s going to get views just from people visiting the channel. If she links another video inside the YT embed video, boom…people are sent to the next video.
Now let’s assume you don’t have a channel pageRank of 6. What you need to do is take your video with the highest views and begin linking.
Using the annotations feature of YouTube, you can easily link to other videos and even back to your channel page. Here is how to accomplish this task.
- Click on your high viewed video.
- At the top you will see this toolbar: Edit annotations/ Edit captions/subtitles/ AudioSwap Insight stats
- Click on “Edit Annotations”
- You are now on the edit video page.
In the lower right hand corner of your video, you will see a box with the “+” symbol that lets you add a word bubble. Click on the “+” symbol and bam! A link box comes up. See screen shot below.
As you can see in the top left, now you have a link option. You can customize the color of the link box and to the right, you will see a text box. Use this box to label your link utilizing your keywords and anchor text. Voila! You have begun the process of internal linking and generating targeted traffic to all of your youtube videos.
Another thing you can do with the link is link it to your channel and use “SUBSCRIBE” as your anchor text. This gives people an easy way to sub to your channel right from your video. Kind of like the RSS subscribe you have on your blog.
Now you may think this is too simple to produce results. I can tell you that it works just as well if not better than linking back to blog posts. Video is easy for people to consume and it comes in min to 2 min snippets. Perfect for our patience decayed society.
Takeaway
While you still need to engage your subscribers and respond to comments, promote your videos and remain active, you can easily begin to build your links internally on all of your videos. A huge benefit of this practice is that if someone else loves your video and embeds it on their site…your link goes with it.
So, start building the links and you will see that it is truly the number one way to increase views on your YouTube videos. Next week, we will discuss YouTube Insights and what they can tell you about your videos and audience.
Feel free to ask any questions, yell at me or show some love below! Also, if you feel the power compel you to, please share this with your friends.

Hi Lisa,
A super creative way to build video back links.
I’d been only linking up to my blog both with annotations and in the description section. I can see how getting YT link love is a big time plus too.
As you note it’s important to engage consistently in the comments field and it doesn’t hurt to start a nice chat or 2 on other’s profiles, in addition to your internal link building exercises. Combine these strategies to augment your online marketing campaign.
I’m heading over now to link up. Thanks for sharing your insight Lisa

Hi Lisa,
I’ve done it inside the video descriptions and annotations, but I don’t think that I set up the links properly inside the annotations. After reading your post I should be able to do so in the future. Thanks again

Great tips, thanks. I’ve spent plenty of time building links to my sites, but I’ve never really thought about optimizing my videos before.

I love it, Lisa – thanks so much for the mention; all of them, as a matter of fact.
I actually have 2 YouTube channels; the other one is PR 5. Both of them got high PR within 2 months, nothing but linking from other channels.
This just goes to show how easy it is to get yourself established on YouTube and your tips would help tremendously, Lisa.

Hey Lisa, this is such a useful tip thanks for sharing it. It’s really a three part tip and I was familiar with the part about annotations, but it’s funny that I never checked the PR of my YouTube channel before. Now I need to decide which video I want to start using the annotations with. My most popular video is a little outdated.
Maybe I’ll start with one of my CommentLuv tutorials instead.
Part three was your idea about adding a subscribe to channel link instead of a blog link. Brilliant!

One thing you can do with your vids to get some more views is find videos in your niche that DO have high views, Then attach your video as a video response to that one. Make sure you link another video inside that one so you get more exposure to your stuff.

So how exactly do annotations (which are in flash) can help your youtube channel get higher ranks and a higher PR?
I like the way you explained the annotations implementation, It’s definitely a great way to increase your youtube video views.
Also I presume that you would have to link to related videos, or just link to your next video which got posted?

thanks for your questions! Actually, you can use anchor text in your link which should correlate with the video topic. Also, the links are all do follow so they do pass PR juice…if PR is even being updated anymore!
Hope this answered your questions,

Your post is really something because I don’t know that we could put our videos on the SERP for some targeted keywords, Lisa. And I totally love it!
I have several Youtube videos on my own and I think I need to apply your way to increase its views. One more thing. Where do you think we should put our link so that it doesn’t interfere viewer and can serve our purpose best?
hi Mike:

Hello Lisa,
I definitely agree on you! Many people are asking how to increase YouTube Views! One great strategy on how to do this is buying YouTube Views. There are many companies that offer this kind of business. It’s really normal for a first time to hear this, they doubt if this technique will work. Well, believe it really helps a lot! You will boost your Website Traffic and target those people you want to. They will view your Product Video Review for your Market and there you go, a better chance for a SALE!
I’ve avoided annotations to this point but after reading this I may go through some of my existing videos and optimize them a bit.
Do getting more ‘views’ directly correlate with rankings or is there any proof how much it matters? A case study would be cool….great tips.
