Volume Writing VS Creative Writing - and Panda

Turning up the volume in the Internet world is what every single blogger, affiliate marketer, and webmaster would like to try to accomplish. Not only that, but they would ideally like to accomplish the task while not having to make any sacrifices in terms of quality. This is not easy however as turning up the volume in terms of quality content production for your website isn’t as easy as – let’s say turning up the volume for your music!

And turning up the volume with content production isn’t always necessarily the best thing for your website. In the past, “more” meant better when it came to everything SEO – whether it be content creation, websites, or link building. But the best of content quality cannot survive with an inordinate amount of volume, it seems, as the more you turn up the volume, the lower the quality gets.

Side Note: It is possible to do white label content creation and link building at a reasonable scale, but it costs more than what many webmasters can afford, and for that reason it is very rare, and it is why the people that are at the top of the rankings for highly desired keyword phrases usually stay there.

The Proof is in the Pudding Panda

A recent study done by Wordtracker shows the many characteristics of websites that were hit hard by the infamous “Panda Slap”. In case you haven’t heard, the Google algorithm update took place on February 24th, and it literally dismantled vast amounts of websites overnight. Webmasters saw the amount of visitors they get on a daily basis drop drastically.

This is extremely relevant for the topic of “Volume Writing VS Creative Writing” as “volume writing websites” were exactly the types of websites Google was aiming at bringing down with this update – or as many are calling it – the “farmers update” as it was aimed at content mills.

There is a difference between a Penalty and an algorithm update, but Panda was a penalty by algorithm update.

Here are three important factors. You will find that creative writing is definitely the way to go as these three factors that the Panda update were based on directly relate to volume writing.

Out of the many characteristics of websites affected by Panda, these three seem to be the ones that define volume writing the most. Many people that are searching in Google would come across websites that were doing well in the SERPs pre-Panda because of the amount of pages and links that the site had, but Google was unable to do anything about it because of their inability to mathematically define low quality content. These three factors allowed them to do that much better and websites that were manipulating Google’s algorithm suffered because of it.

Conclusion:

Steering away from volume writing and focusing on creative writing and providing the best possible value you possibly can – even if it means downsizing the number of pages or posts you get up in a week – will allow you to better your numbers for the three factors mentioned above. Not only that, but it will allow you to gain trust with your readers, and will also allow your website to survive dramatic algo updates like Panda. As long as you are providing value on the web, Google will “like” you!

No Vijayraj it’s not about bounce rate. Bounce rate varies for each niche. Google panda update affected sites that had lot of posts on same topic. They treated them as content farms and brought down the search engine positions.

I should say high bounce rate is the striking factor which lead to Google Panda. The high bounce rate content is usually scrap and spinner-ed writing.

Bounce rate increase when a person search for a specific article and search engine shown more than one site for the same content. And when that person will read that article from the first site and then go to the second one and found the same article again he will close the site at once. This is the main problem of high bounce rate. And also this decrease the worth of search engine too. And to maintain its value Google has introduced this Panda Update. So that user may found the unique content on every site on a specific problem.

Now, the trend is changed and people are considering about the authority and quality of the content. Google is really seems to be happy if we write technical and quality content for the websites.
Writing in bulks is not so much effective now,
But
What to do with article marketing. If we have to do it, then we need different articles for different article directories. How will we accomplish this?

Hi,
Yes, in the Volume writing Vs Creative writing scenario, one has to be compromised for sure as both metrics can’t be satisfied in an effort to attain both and usually creativity is the metric that has to be suffered most of the time, that has been the casualties of Pandas.
I feel ‘less is more’ simply.
Here less means the less but merit quality content.

Bliss

I’m not sure if the study is correct, my site has a bounce rate around 50% but it increased in visitors at this time.

Due to the recent Google Panda update I would recommend an online entrepreneur to focus more on quality of content rather than on volume. Today, it is better to decrease quantity, but improve quality of content signifficantly! So, choosing between volume and creative writing you should definitely give preference to creative writing.

Since the Panda update, it is evident that only websites with quality content will survive. Do not aim for quantity, but rather aim for quality!

With recent google panda and authorship marker update blogging has become a more tough job. Rewriting contents are copying doesn’t work any more. Creative writing on needed topics is going to be the key.

Such an important point.

We can get all too caught up in quantity the quality escapes us. I doesn’t help to have a lot of content if no one cares about it, reads it or can find it everywhere on the web.

So from a search engine standpoint it make sense to penalize sites that don’t offer value, doesn’t it?

I agree with Liz, even when panda update affected on some blogs and websites ranking; it really worked good for those sites who continuously producing quality content. The upside of some great blogs and sites is their attractive unique content.

It is absolutely true that some value is added to the web, and then Google is going to like it. Even though it is simple logic it is not easy to do it but without any hard work success cannot be gained. This is a very interesting article.
