One great problem most bloggers face is the problem called “writers block“, I hate hearing about it not even knowing I will come to face it one day.
Being an avid guest blogger who has written over 40 guest posts in one month, getting blog post ideas was never a problem for me but I eventually discovered that the more my blog grows this particular problem began to set in. I now find it difficult to write blog posts nowadays.
I was also facing this same problem before I decided to write this post.
I have observed my “now” and my “then” and I have come to discover the reason I find it very difficult to come up with blog post ideas nowadays, this post outlines some of them.
1. Avoid Stress Like A Plague
If not for the importance of my email address, I would have deleted it and forget about having an email address because it contributes to a large percentage of my stress.
Stress is a killer and it is very important for you to avoid stress as much as possible because it can lead to you losing a lot of things, the more stressful you are the more difficult it is for you to get blog post ideas.
I do receive a large number of emails everyday (I process over 100 mails every day), and I find it difficult to reply to personal emails. One major thing I am about to do and I will advice you to do is have two email addresses, unsubscribe from all lists and blogs you are subscribed to and then resubscribe them to another email while using the other one for personal purposes, the other email can now be focused on when you have done all your day job.
Another major element of stress is distraction, I mean when a lot of things begin to fight for your attention. If you are about to write a blog post it will be better to turn off your IM tools and email because the absence of these will also make sure you have full concentration thereby making it easy for you to get blog post ideas.
2. Isolation is Not Good
One major thing that causes the writers block problem is being isolated, if you are always alone then it is very dangerous because you will be missing a lot of things.
Isolation might come in many forms, it might not necessarily be social, it might take other forms, for example, it will not be advisable to spend all your time on your computer, you might want to watch a movie and also read some books because all this contribute to your health and helps make sure you get better results.
Hanging around with others is very important because you get to know their ways of life and you also know how to deal with people. You can also easily get great ideas when chatting with friends.
3. Organise Your Tasks
Organization is very important and you must not only be in the office before you are organized.
One major thing that helps simplify your tasks is organization because it reduces your worries and makes it easier for you to get things done faster.
One major problem I notice with myself is that I lack organization, I might spend two hours checking my mails and refreshing my inbox and before I know it I have wasted a large percentage of my day.
You might want to have a time-table setting aside various hours for various tasks and follow this time-table strictly because it helps make things easier.
4. Focus on Your Strong Point
This particular tool is very important and works wonders, it is very effective in every areas of life. There was a story of a geese telling an horse that it is more perfect than the horse because it can fly on the air, swim in the water and walk on the ground, the horse then replied the geese that even though it has all those characteristics they are next to useless because the geese cannot reach the height of a bird, it cannot go deep into the water and it is not perfect on the ground, the horse further told the geese that it only has one strength which is on the ground and that is its strength, it can walk and run on the ground, it has great strength envied by men e.t.c. Are you the geese or the horse?
One major thing to consider is focus, i mean focus on your strength. If you get inspiration from reading books then focus on that and you will continue to get more inspiration. Focusing on your point of inspiration is a great way to overcome writers block.
5. Read, Read, Read
Many of us don’t like reading and it can really have a long way to go in our lives. Information is a part of our lives and the more informed we are the more we can get.
There are lots of other blogs, newspapers, magazines and many other resources in your niche, try as much as you can to lay your hand on these resources and then read them regularly because in them lies a lot of great and hidden ideas waiting for you to tap into them.
Writers block is one of the major problem a blogger can face and it can even make you hate your blog, in a case like this the solution is not to take any negative steps but to work harder by doing the right things to overcome them.
The above are 5 great ways to overcome writers block.

Hi Onibalusi,
I can completely relate to this post and your ‘writers block’. Thanks for sharing your experiences and advice! They were very, very useful!
“Stress is a killer and it is very important for you to avoid stress as much as possible because it can lead to you losing a lot of things, the more stressful you are the more difficult it is for you to get blog post ideas.”
This is very true, and I think it happens to all of us. And I think this not only applies to blog posts, but every aspect of a web business! The stress can overcome your creative side of your mind, and you are unable to think properly. Thats why it is important to stay away from stress as much as you can.
Kindest,
Nabeel
Agree stress can kill us in many ways.I think yoga is the best way to get relief from stress.

Isolation can be such a demotivator. As bloggers, we get so cooped up in our rooms, writing away that we forget the purpose of living – to be with others!
Get out there and spend some time with friends. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll talk about and at the end of the night you’ll come home and immediately write down some great ideas for blog posts.

Great minds think alike – or fools never differ? Either way, I love that we have inadvertently posted similar topics but neither touch on the same thing – awesome!
I think no. 2 is a good point because it indirectly assumes the need to interact with other bloggers – which is definitely a must!
Thanks for a good read as usual Oni my man

#5 is mine. Simply put, if I’m not writing, I’m reading. This reading is what produces thoughts for my writing.
I’m lucky enough to never have “the block”, and with a current 600+ drafts sitting here, I don’t see it happening anytime soon.
