We’ve always been told, or at least I have, that we need to follow our passion when it comes to making money online. The next question is whether your passion is profitable or not. I believe anyone can make their niche profitable. The less competition the better, right?
I’ve always been passionate about video games my whole life, but I’ve never taken a stab at utilizing my knowledge to make profit. I created gaming sites and forums for fun, never for money. It’s true that the video game niche isn’t profitable on a high scale but you could make it so doing private deals with vendors. I’ve never seen or been involved with affiliate marketing with the gaming industry. By being one of the few that does, you have less competition and increased chance of making money.
Most people have the mentality that “if it works for them, it should work for me”. This isn’t completely true, and this is why the make money online niche has become over-saturated. Everyday, we see people pop-up trying to make it big and involve ourselves with the make money online hype, myself included.
The fact is that most people will fail because they have no real knowledge or experience. They use others’ information as their own, but that can only last so long. Don’t get me wrong, the make money online and blogging for money niche is very profitable if you know how to market yourself.
Never do anything solely for the money; do it for the fun. You’ll waste a lot of time doing work you don’t like and believing you’ll make a killing off it. Unless you’re lucky, you’re destined to fail. No one likes to feel like they’ve worked their butt off just to earn a dollar. You’ll experience bliss once you’ve earned and had fun doing so. That’s one of the ways to gain success.
This is why I’ve decided to associate myself with the niche. I’m not a professional at making money online, but I’m passionate about it. I love to learn and share what I’ve learned with others. Being passionate has enabled me to endure until I’ve gained success. I’ve made a rewarding amount but the best has yet to come.
Even though the competition is insane, I believe I can make it big. You can too if you’re passionate, unique, and genuine. If you’re deciding to start a blog and/or a site, I hope I’ve helped make the decisions a bit easier for you in terms of which route to take.

An interesting point of view is being raised here. I do agree that sometimes passion and money can be far away from each other. In that case answering, which one is the better choice is a tough one If you are not passionate you can hardly make any money, but if your passion is not profitable you are in a stuck situation again. If one is keen on making money, then my advice is to go for a profitable niche. Reading on that niche and researching into details, might turn the passion on at a certain time. The other way around is beyond a blogger’s control.

If you’re talented you can find a way to profit from your passion.
The other route is to pursue a profitable niche you can be passionate about.

Making money from your passions are the way to go, as long as there is a way to make money off of it.
For video games there are a lot of ways to make money off of them. The problem is that there are so many people who are passionate about it and would love to earn a living there that in that case there is a big glut.
SO if all your passions are too competitive or are really unable to be monetized, then it will be pretty impossible to successfully make a passion into bankroll.
Like you said, in that situation it may be time to get passionate about a niche.

It’s true that there are many gaming sites out there but many webmasters don’t optimize their site enough to make money. Most just use adsense or other ads. They can also offer advertising deals with companies and have paid member subscriptions.

Passion can take you a long way in any niche. You can always learn as you go.

Yes, that’s true. There will also be people that will question your authority because of your inexperience. The best thing to do is ignore them and move on.

I think we could make money from our knowledge and passion, but if we try to create a blog or website to earn money in any particularly niche that we are not good at, I think it might requires a lot of time and efforts.
Santel´s last [type] ..What can you blog about
It does require extensive time and effort since you have to learn and teach yourself about that niche.
Most of the time you’ll stress yourself out and give up.

I believe it is easier to succeed if you are passionate about your niche. As long as you know that it is viable as a business venture. Then when there are a few bumps in the road on your journey to blogging success, it is easier to persevere. Thanks for a great post.

I agree. Pursuing your passion can have many perks because you’ll enjoy it more and it won’t feel like your working.

I think you want to pick a niche that you are passionate about so that you really enjoy your blog. Otherwise it just becomes another job. If you are passionate about the making money online type niche, then I say go for it and don’t worry about the competition. Afterall, you are in it to learn something new and enjoy yourself. Then it’s just a fun challenge to break into the market.

If you go with a niche you aren’t passionate about, later on you’ll get tired of doing what you’re doing and drop out. And most likely you won’t give it another go because you think it’s hard work. True, it’s hard at first, but it takes time.

Hey d3so,
Without passion, we can’t do anything further. It also means we will stop half way before being “success”.
But i guess it is normal that sometimes our passion is just fading, we can’t have this passion all the times.
It is just our challenge to light up our passion again.
I love the point in your post, which says, “we have to have knowlegde or experience on what we are blogging about”.
Keep it up, cheers!

You do need knowledge and preferably experience as well. I hate it when people try to pass off that they have experience and success when they don’t.
It’s better to state that you’re on your way to the top.

d3so,
I agree, if we do anything for “money” only, eventually we’ll lose an interest and site will gather dust. If we do it what we like, even if we do not make money (at first), we’ll still have fun.
I know someone who does it only for money and does it well, but all of us can’t be like that. So do what works.
I have seen you at john chow a lot, it is good to see you here as well.

It’s rare when people only do it for the money and succeed. It’s either they got lucky or have excellent marketing & business skills.

This is one great content, well.. I blog for passion, but when I uses Yahoo and Google PPC to sell as an affiliate in all kinds of niches… I go for money…
I do not agree what you said “Never do anything solely for the money; do it for the fun.” Look, in business you can have fun but when it comes to money you got to be serious…
Both are needed no matter what you do in life, it doesn’t matter whether you are blogging just for fun or just for money, all you need to know is “WHEN” you should be doing it for fun and “WHEN” you should be doing it for money… That’s what life is almost all about…

Good point you bring up Bad Blogger. I do PPC for the money too, it’s too risky if you do it for fun
.
But you can have fun and be serious when you make ad creatives. Those convert the best.

i completely accept your point.
you should work hard, and it must be useful to get money out of it.
yes, work hard but love the work you’re doing. there’s no use working hard doing something you have no interest in. You’re just stressing yourself.
I think following your passion sounds great in theory, but the reality is that some niches just aren’t profitable, no matter how passionate you are, or how hard you try.

Like I said, you can turn a niche into a profitable one if you’re creative.
What niches don’t you think are profitable?
d3so´s last [type] ..TechnShare Crazy Guest Blogging Contest
I think it’s important to know that everything isn’t about passion. Are you having fun? Is a better word I believe. Fun with the money you make? I mean I can’t come up with one niche that I had truly loved working in. It’s still work, so I rather pick a niche that is profitable. That’s just me.
Ask the oil and steel tycoons if they have any passion for oil and steel. I guess you get my point. Of course, if we hate our niche, no good at all.
But I believe marketing, and the concept in our products and presentations of our sites are just as important.

Oil and steel tycoons make it big because of their business skills.
You have to find an industry you’re interested or passionate about. You’ll be much more successful and have more fun rather than making money with an industry you loathe.

There’s a few new markets that I’m going after that are way beyond what I would originally do a while back because they’re so aggressive but with the stuff I know now and the passion I have, I’m going to go big with them.
I agree, if you have passion for any subject, you can convert it to your fill time job and similarly passion for niche research can lead you lot of money. Excellent post and Thanks for sharing the useful tips.
