Too Many Newbies Online Doing The Same Type Of Marketing

Ok folks this my first guest post here on Technshare.com and pretty much wanted to come in with a bang. I’m not one of those marketers who is going to beat around the bush and sugar coat things. My train of thought is to tell people the truth so they don’t get false hopes about online marketing in such.

I’m not here to give you the top wordpress plugins to use or tell you how to gain more subscribers, because if you’re marketing the correct way then subscribers will automatically come your way. I get most of my subscribers by telling them to start here first. This way people understand what to do versus having to guess when they visit your site, but enough of that lets get down to business.

Straight Shooter

People need structure on this planate of ours, even back in grade school they told you to sit here, lay here, read this and many other ridiculous things. So our whole lives haven been based around the monkey see monkey do illness. Check this out? If someone buys a brand new cell phone that looks cool but no one else ever knows about it, because this person bought it from across seas or something. Guess what? many other people will be asking where you got it form and how much did it cost?

A month later the whole USA will have one because the word of mouth travels. This is what happen when newbies come online to so call market. I’m trying not to laugh because 98% of the people who try to market online no zip about how to drive massive traffic to their website and how to build a big following. Plus a lot of these people are the ones you see doing guest post, you may think they are very knowledgeable about the subject of marketing but most of the content they write about is just rewritten content.

If you don’t believe me then take a look at some guest post around the internet, they are all about the top this and the top that. You may ask yourself why is that? Its because of the monkey see monkey do illness that newbies follow. One way I can spot a newbie is to check their Alexa ranking, and yes I know it’s not 100% accurate..but its on point enough for me to analysis their site with.

If their site is higher, meaning anything above 200k when it comes to traffic. That means they are not getting that much traffic so it’s wouldn’t be smart to follow them at that moment because they are not really doing all that well online..so what can you do then?

Everybody Is Using FaceBook

Most people when looking to market online start by going to FaceBook and Twitter. Why you ask? Because a million other people went to them so they decided it will be a great place to market also. Look, there is nothing wrong with social marketing site, but they are not the place to market. Believe me these site are only built for people to network back and forth, and that’s pretty much it. Once you start to get too aggressive with sharing your site links and contacting to many people for friend request, then this is when your account risk getting shut down.

If you don’t believe me, then just stick around long enough and see if you are to aggressive on their site. People mostly follow what is working, and most of the internet tells you to go get a facebook page and start growing your page and start driving traffic to your site.

This is not smart people, because if you’re just starting out then you should be dong things that will grow your own site, not growing someone else’s site which is a fan page. Why work your butt off promoting a fan page when you only have 5 subscribers to your blog. Three of them is your friends , one of them is you spouse and the other one is a old lady who stumbled across your site and just decided to join.

What smart people Do?

What I tell people who have this facebook obsession is that you should focus on building your website traffic up by engaging with other blogs in your niche. Maybe you have heard this before but I’m looking to show you the steps I take to drive crazy traffic to my site.

First you should comment on the top 10 websites in your niche that gets the most traffic. One want to be at least the top 3 comments on their blog once they releases a new post. Use Google Reader to be notified instantly when new content is posted.

Do this for about a good two to four weeks which let the community get to know you better and at the same time the owner of the blog will start to recognize your engagement. This type of marketing can lead to not only good traffic to your site but also if you’re able to spark up a friendship, then you can be able to network with the owner and maybe get put on the map.

They maybe allow you to guest post, do a interview , tweet your content and even share your site with their thousands of members on their emailing list. This can bring you thousands of visitor and grow you reader base without too much effort. If do this consistently for about 6 months to a year then your site will be one of the major players when it comes to getting traffic.

So put all your hard work into networking which is the number one way of building traffic that you control. Just remember these socials sites is something you can’t control, but you can control how many people you contact on a daily basic to network with.

The Ball Is In Your Court Now…

Interesting point of view.. I still remember some time ago a phrase that got “stuck” in my head, and that is “there is nothing new under the sun, however, there are a million ways to stay under the sun”… What I Am trying to say here is that you are right about many articles being repetitive as it is virtually impossible to actually write something today that no one else has… The idea is to be unique, and that is to write about something providing your own views, opinions and insights. It does not have to be necessarily rewritten, although it may appear that way and it does happen.

As for networking, yeah, you are absolutely right. This method has been present for quite a long time… we just manage to keep changing the “word” and call it differently :)

Sometimes the best way is the simple way? It may take more work to find the top blogs and go about it that way, but it seems to be the simplest. For me, I have limited Facebook to people that I know. I know others have done the same. That wouldn’t help a blogger get his/her name out there to new people so much.

Viral Marketing is such big thing for publicity and most importantly it cost nothing. People have more trust on their friends, relatives and on those they can see. That is why some big sites spread very fast while they did not do any hard work to promote them. But in these days you need to spread your work to get more and more, and for this purpose social media is the best way. It is social and almost every person use it, once you share a link of your site on a person’s wall it is seen from all of his friends or followers, this mean by telling one person you can target plenty of others. And then of you are writing good and useful articles then the time for viral marketing starts.

Hi Antonio,
You have made the points outside the box. I would agree that the article writing practices, you have pointed out, are adversely observed in the newbies and that has created the situation of over supply as compare to demand. But it’s quite unfeasible to produce a content that hasn’t been available over the web as said by DiTesco. What you can do is add your own opinion, experiences, other experiences about that.
Plus, I would also second to the point about promoting your site with 5 followers, but I feel social media is about what you have concluded here, socializing and networking. While socializing you could have a considerable traffic and followers to your site no matter how many followers you have. But here its doesn’t mean to have ‘n’ friends requests the same day. Cultivate your network slowly and stay stead, active and sharp. Its all about to hit the nail at right time.

By the way very impressive writing style, really made a bang. :)
Hope to see more value posts from you.

Just because “everyone else is doing it” it does not mean it’s the best strategy for you. In order to market effectively online you really need to understand the target audience. What are their online behaviors and where and when do they spend time online?

Antonio,

There is very little that is 100% new out there. A REALLY fresh idea is very hard to find.

That doesn’t mean that we all have to go for the same rehashed BS. There are many ways to present the information, quicker, cleaner and with style.

Connecting with others, telling it like it is and above all building a strong “brand” that actually means something to people is essential to this!

Thanks for an interesting first article here on TNS.

Thanks a lot for sharing this so that those who are using this type of strategies might get to know that we are not fool and you are not remain Hidden by this way.

This is good information and an eye opener dear. You just hit the nail by the head and it’s very important we understand the real definition of marketing. I see facebook as a total waste of time for most marketers, I’m not a fan of these social sites. I give my 80% attention to understand SEO and building a strong JV networks. It pays great dividend

I can see EXACTLY what you are talking about here Antonio, in fact I refer to it as ‘GroundBlog day’ the repetitive nature of the blogosphere is like that I think – butas Steve said above, there is never any brand new information but rather an opinion on this.
I personally think you are being a little too critical of first time bloggers, I mean sure they guest post and have no real idea what they are talking about – but hey, they are at least out there taking action and engaging.
I personally think that networking should come second to taking action and writing good content based on that action.

Look at the top bloggers, I guarantee they all strted by taking action and then writing about it.
Networking should come second to this.

Thanks for sharing your perspective mate.

Every newbie in blogging will think of Facebook and Twitter as their main source of traffic. That is the norm nowadays. Of course, we should think that before they got into blogging, they have already been using these social networking sites for networking purposes. This may be a good way to start off on blogging, but I don’t think this strategy will always give great results for starters. Thanks for the informative post you shared here Black SEO Guy, especially with the tips on what do smart people really do.

There are definitely good reasons to follow what others are doing. I agree that there is info repeated all over the blogs but you have to learn to write about stuff in your own way.

Also you need to add some personality into it like you have here.

Those top 10 articles unfortunately work better than the other boring titles…I hate it too but which would you rather…??

As for Facebook..to say it does not work simply means it is not working for you. We cannot count out any traffic sources as the traffic from it might just happen to suit what you need. Everyone’s needs are different.

I totally agree with you about commenting on the top. When a post has 200 comments, yours won’t matter for any practical or SEO purposes. I use an iPhone app to get a notice instantly when a blogger posts and I go there to leave a comment that adds to the discussion. It does work.
