How to Let Your Personality Flow while Blogging

Liven up

Great bloggers all share one virtue in common:  They infuse their writing with a triple shot of personality.  Let your personality flow into your blogging and your readers will find you.  – Jeffery Feldman, editor in chief of Frameshop and HuffPost blogger

There is nothing worse than arriving on a blog, only to be let down.  You begin reading the first few sentences and then you bounce.  Why did your bounce?

You bounced because the site you landed on reminded you of a dictionary or an encyclopedia.  Did a real person even write this stuff?

You should blog like you mean it, in your own voice, while allowing your personality to shine.  The only way you can do this is by sharing a little piece of yourself with your readers.

Readers will learn more from you when they can relate to you and your experiences.  The reader will get great information from your articles, but they will also remember you after they leave your blog and be compelled to take action.

Post to your blog regularly

You have heard this probably a zillion times, but the more you write the better you get and as a result you become comfortable sharing with others.

Decide when you will post and do your best to stick with it.  If you decide to post 2 times per week, then stick with that.  Your readers will love you for your consistency and be eager to engage with you even more.

Post useful, helpful, beneficial and informative articles

Sharing awesome information that people can use will send many people your way.  People love to read information that will help them answer their questions.

When you begin writing, always ask yourself, will anyone find this post helpful, useful, and beneficial?

Don’t try to be like any other blogger, just be yourself

The worst thing anyone can do is try to be someone else.  When you write, write like you mean it, straight from your heart.  That’s the only effective way you can truly reach your audience.

Let go and let your writing flow.  Don’t worry about what people might say or think, because you are being you.

Respond to comments and emails

Make it a practice to respond to all of your comments, even if it means leaving a simple thank you. A simple thank you will go along way and means more than you will ever know.

Make a video

Every now and then, embed a video to let your readers see the real you in the flesh.  This will allow your readers a glimpse of who you are and it makes things a little more personable.

Video leaves a lasting impression on people.  If you’re camera shy, take it slow, but do consider the power of video.

Conclusion

Some bloggers don’t allow the reader to really get to know them, but you must decide today to let your personality shine.

Don’t be afraid of letting others see the real you.  It can only help you soar to higher heights.

Don’t be boring, bland and dry.  Throw a little spice in whatever you do.  After all, it’s your blog and variety is the spice of life.

Call to Action

Decide today how you will let your personality shine on your blog and in your internet travels.  Once you decide to let your personality shine, then follow through.

Give us some ways you will shine.  If you’re already doing it, let us know what you’re doing.

There are certain TV and radio shows I like to watch and listen to not only because of the content but also because of the person hosting the show. The way they say things, the feelings behind their opinions, it all makes watching and listening more interesting.

The same can be said about blogging. When you find a blog that has topics that interest you you quickly start reading, but then you realize this persons style of writing is boring because this sounds more like a dictionary (as you so cleverly stated) or a presentation and not so much like actually hearing or feeling the person behind the words and so you move on to other sites.

I do my best to put a lot of myself into my articles. This post alone can give you an idea of me. I just can’t say things in a few words. My comments will always be amongst the long ones. It’s who I am.

2 thunbs up on this article.

Keep in mind that you can always make videos without appearing on camera. So there are no excuses! :)

Evelyn

Everything you said is on the mark and correct. Just wanted to thank you for a great post. I always try to do all that you talked about. Even the video part, though that is a little hard for me. I am much more nervous on camera than when I simply am typing.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,
Thank you! Every time I make a video, I am nervous. The good thing is the viewers never know how many times I’ve done retakes. (lol).

Take care!

Hi Evelyn – I love it when people put their personality into their blog (posts and otherwise) so that their passion shines through. One way I do this is by giving myself plenty of time each morning to just free-write with no intention of having the work appear anywhere. The funny thing is that when I do this, post ideas will often come flowing from the pen that will eventually be revised and published on the blog.

i completely agree with you ma’am and i am also strongly in favor of giving personal touch to every post of yours….but sometimes, a bit of professionalism is needed everywhere….
There is a thin line of between personal and professional and bloggers need to take full advantage of it…..

These are great tips, its very important have personality in your blogs, you want to make the reader feel like you are talking to them and helping them. If your post is boring and sounds like a text book, most likely people won’t read it.

Thanks Evelyn! Yeah, just be yourself – love that. In the blogging world there is so much competition and so many successful people to ‘compare’ yourself to, if one gets stuck trying to be like someone else you’re heading down a dead end street. Thanks for your article!
