How to Increase Your Blog Exposure with the Facebook Comments Social Plugin

The key to being a really successful blogger is being able to get your blog in front of as many eyes as possible and to get your readers to share their experience on your blog (hopefully positive) with all their friends. And one of the most effective ways to get your blog noticed by your readers’ friends is through Facebook. There are a lot of Facebook social plugins that can help your site’s connectivity to the popular social networking site, but the Comments social plugin is one of the best because, not only does it get your blog name in front of your readers’ Facebook friends, but it also gives them an opportunity to enter the conversation.

The Comments Social Plugin

Facebook launched a new line of social plugins last spring that were supposed to help web developers and bloggers like you increase your connectivity with Facebook, giving your users a better online experience and the ability to share their favorite stuff from all over the web with their Facebook friends quickly and easily. The Comments social plugin is no different. All it is, is a comments section that you would appear on any other blog, but this one is different because it allows your readers to post a comment on your blog and on their own Facebook profile simultaneously. You can find the code for the Comments social plugin at the Facebook developers’ site here.

Commenting for Connectivity

Replacing your current comments section with a Facebook Comments plugin gives you greater connectivity with Facebook. When your readers decide to comment on your fantastic content (because you have fantastic content), they can post their comment to Facebook and let all their friends know how they feel, giving you more exposure.

Starting a Conversation

Not only does the Comments social plugin get you more exposure on Facebook but it does so in a way that invites people to join the conversation that is going on at your blog. When one of your readers reacts to one of your posts, their feelings are broadcasted to their friends, instead of a simple link to your blog. That emotional engagement is what brings people to your blog better than any plain link would. What the plugin allows you to do is not just engage your readers’ friends passively, like an advertisement, but to engage them on an emotional level. And that emotional connection is what will bring more traffic to your blog.

Reader engagement through the Comments social plugin is all about emotional context. If you can help your readers express their emotional connection to your blog with their friends, it is much more powerful than simply getting your name out in front of thousands of people.

Hmmm. Interesting, but I don’t know about implementing this one.

Can we assume that comment spam would be a thing of the past with this plugin? Or is this going to be a way “in” to people’s profiles through the comments plugin?

I don’t know enough yet to say, but I’ll have to investigate. Thanks for the article!

No, I really doubt we’ll ever be rid of spam. But hey, there’s always the delete button. ;) Thanks for your comment.

I totally agree with the above points. But I think, you should not update FB or Twitter manually. Many softwares and services are always ready to help you do it automatically.

It is not best as we expected from some automatic stuff. But we can both update information by robot and our hand, a kind of semi-automatic.

James – I have noticed the comments social plugin on a few blogs I have visited and after reading this post I can see how it can be useful.

I think this plugin is great for those who have a good following on Facebook, but since I just recently got involved with Facebook I think I will wait until I have some people on Facebook to share my content.

Thanks for the link to the plugin and I will give it a try once I build up my Facebook community.

I’m wondering how such a plug-in would do with a comment system already in place. Would it be too much to have normal comments, like seen here, as well as Facebook comments, all on the same page?

Looks like you could add the code to a sidebar, which may be better in some cases, but then how many people would actually use it then?

Any thoughts on this?

Facebook Comments are far more effective than Disqus or intense debate plugins, but still I face problem with facebook comments integration as the loading time gets increased by inserting such codes.
