How To Get Traffic In 45 Seconds

Post image for How To Get Traffic In 45 Seconds

As this is the first time posting here at TechnShare I thought I might talk about something close to my heart and something that – if you want longevity in your blogging career should be close to your heart too, Keywords.(those familiar with my blog are rolling their eyes right now :) )

Now whether you are an SEO expert or just starting out with internet marketing, keyword research and optimisation is paramount to your success. No matter what anyone tries to tell you about the power of social media and building a community around your blog and blah blah blah, underlying all of this is a Keyword optimised page. Keywords are the foundations of your blogging longevity because long after you have given up friending people and Tweeting Del.icio.us content to your Social circle, your indexed pages are sitting pretty in front of the eyes of thousands of hungry targeted Googlites.

Still not convinced? Here’s two interesting facts that might sway your opinion slightly.

  • There are more than 120 billion searches done each month, that equates to around 166 million every hour of every day.
  • According to tracked statistics, over 80% of online transactions begin with a keyword search.

Bloggers are busy enough as it is

Fellow bloggers, I hear your cries and I empathise. (sounds like a song.) Blogging is such a multi faceted business, involving engagement and productivity on all levels, so when something new is offered to you in the form of a blog post , you think:

“Awesome, I have to try that one day….after those other things, I’ll just bookmark it… here. OK Now, I PROMISE I’ll come straight back to it as soon as I have finished with…. oooh a comment.”

But not this post – not today, because I am going to show you a tool that will do the very basics for you in seconds, without you having to do any of that horrible thing we call ‘thinking’. But first let me reiterise what it is you are doing and why you are bothering.

I have talked many times before about the importance of optimising each and every post that you write for the search engines, and if you are a blogger this is easy because 1: Your not too concerned with competition, and 2: this is not the primary way you are trying to get traffic so the process is not critical.

But the process is still important, especially if you are writing reviews and adding affiliate links, because the traffic that comes from the search engines is targeted and only interested in the product or service they originally searched and found you for. This is clearly a good thing, so if you can develop a routine whereby each post is optimised for the most popular phrase instead of the one you ‘thought was the popular one’ you are giving your blog a much better chance of earning you residual income – and making longevity your friend.

Don’t have an Eye for Keywords?

Well now you don’t have to because KeywordEye is here and it’s mighty useful if you are not concerned with the numbers.

An Overview of Keyword Eye

Keyword Eye is a new Keyword Tool that gives you a page of relevant keywords in a cloud like format and the amount of competition and search volume is displayed visually, through colour and text size, so you can literally get a split second overview of the best key phrases to use. Benefits include:

  • Enter your URL and watch it spit out a list of keyphrases relevant to the content on your site! Now that’s the  lazy bloggers way to optimise!
  • Quickly see what are the best key phrases to use in your post without having 400 useless phrases that make you wonder how on earth they could be deemed relevant in the first place?! (read Googles Keyword Tool)
  • Hover over each keyword to get exact search volume (according to Google – and Broad match I would imagine)
  • Add keywords or build your own list in the selected keyword box on the right hand side. Once finished you can export the list to your computer in text and excel format.
  • Basically – Optimise every post for the Search Engines with 45 seconds of work!
  • Oh yeah, and it’s FREE. No opt in, no T&C to accept, just enjoy.

Summary of the Keyword Eye

This is a fantastic tool for taking both the legwork and the thinking out of optimising your posts, and if you are new to blogging, or you have too much on your plate already then this is a perfect way to get your SEO feet wet whilst not distracting you from the other 7 million things you are doing. The benefits are only extended to blogging however because where SEO is essential, like niche site marketing for example – the detail here simply not enough and the system not authenticated. No captcha code is asked for so I assume the figures are cached which is fine for bloggers, but again not something I would rely on if SEO was my primary traffic source.

I strongly recommend that you go and check them out and have a play, and then incorporate this into the process you use to post an article. It will be the smartest thing you ever do.

All in One SEO pack is completely different. Yes it’s great for maximising your inhouse SEO but it’s not going to help you find other keywords to use.

Hi Alex
“According to tracked statistics, over 80% of online transactions begin with a keyword search.”
That’s great news for an old SEOer like me who doesn’t bother with facebook or twitter.
I was once a regular reader of SEOMoz so I’m not bad with SEO.

Keyword Eye tool looks great – I’ll give it a run out.

In conjunction with the Google WonderWheel the KeywordEye provides me with useful additional keywords I can use to spice up my posts, articles and the structure of my websites.

Hi there,

Thanks for the suggestion, indeed is a great tool, but the issue that I encounter (maybe just for my niche) is that all the keywords have “high competition”. Somehow is natural because the phrases that people use to search for something are pretty much the same in each case.

Reply

Alex July 30, 2010 at 12:43 am

Calin,

I noticed the same thing, I think this tool is limited in what it can do and as you said, within certain niches, (like MMO) nearly ALL keywords are highly competitive

Hey Dennis,

Yeah well that’s the nature of keyword research for you isn’t it.
When you rely on a series of algorithms to get your information aggregated you can’t expect perfect results every time.
Perhaps your site is not clear with its keyword optimisation and therefore you are actually indirectly competing for all that too?
