Don’t quote (or fight) me on this, but I strongly believe that link building makes up about 90% of your SEO success.
There is only so much on-page optimization you can do to push your site up the SERP, but the rest of it will definitely come down to the quality (mostly) and quantity of your links.
The challenge for today: find 10 quality (by “quality” I mean high PR) links from relevant sites in about 30 minutes or so.
All using a free Firefox tool and some common-sense “super-duper secret” (yeah, right!) search engine queries.
Let’s get down to business.
1. Install SEO Quake Plugin for Firefox
Side note: I hope you already use Firefox as your main browser. If not, you are missing out.
You’ll need to have Firefox browser already installed for this to work; so if you don’t have one, download it here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
Next, download and install SEO Quake plugin from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3036/
I surely hope you don’t need step-by-step instructions to get this done, because you are not getting them from me (too much to type
).
After you have the plugin installed and restarted Firefox, this is what you’ll see:
Do you see that little PR up and down arrow? That’s gold mine.
Now you can sort the websites in your niche by their PR and started commenting on/linking from the highest PR pages you can find.
Anything PR 4 and above is great, PR 3 is not too shabby either.
Now on to the next stage of our exercise: how do you find those valuable websites you can comment on and thus link from in your niche?
2. Use Search Engine Queries to Find “Linkable” Sites
Here’s where you can find the best codes to use when doing link building for your site:
3. Sift Through the Search Results
Now that you have SEO Quake plugin and search codes at hand, everything becomes a “rinse and repeat” kind of deal.
- Enter a search query with your keyword into Google
- Sort the results by page rank
- Leave a valuable comment
- Rinse and repeat
A few quick SEO link building tips, in case you are wondering:
- Don’t worry about DoFollow/NoFollow – you need both
- Avoid heavily commercial sites and bad neighborhoods
- Vary your anchor text to make it look more natural
- Don’t go crazy your fist day on the job; stick to 10-20 links per day
So you still think 10 quality links from authority sites in under 30 minutes is a tough one? Not after reading this post, I bet.
You are right: you don’t have to comment or retweet, but do it anyway; I love hearing from you!

Ana, it’s proven that targeting a LOW COMPETITION keyword or phrase can get you to the top of the SERPs with little or no backlinks. Of course low competition keywords may not get searched a lot, but it proves that ranking high is not entirely dependent on backlinks! In-post SEO is equally as important.

Thanks Ana! Great tips to get quality backlinks!
The effectiveness of the one-way backlinks is hard to measure. And Google gets offended if its coming from a spam site.

Hi Ana
Just one question to you. Where do you get those lovely pictures you have in you blog?
Thanks

I’m surprised I haven’t seen the quake plugin. Thanks. I’ve also noticed that no follow links DO indeed help with rank when coming from high quality, relevant content, decent PR sites. I used to look at whether a link was follow or not – not anymore. All links are good – some are better. Just stay away from the farms and spammy sites.
Super beneficial info. The SEO quake plugin is sweet. Makes a good analyzer for your own site as well! thanks Ana

Your post is a gold mine, Ana. I’ve installed SEO Quake and have been getting high PR links since then. Thanks a lot!
I will try this method, our website has been slipping in rankings recently and the trend is worrying.
Very nice. I first didnt try it, until recently. It is surely helpful.
SEO Quake, a very good addon.
SEO Quake is out of date now Ana. What are you using instead?
Yeah, smart post and a balance between followed and nofollow links is important.
Some great strategies covered in this post Ana. One thing I’m still not clear on – having followed all your links in this post back to you other *very* helpful articles – is how to create anchor text to link back to your site?
In fact I think I’ll come back to your site to ask the question. I’m sure it’s something very simple and basic once you know how!
A lot of what you articulate happens to be astonishingly legitimate and that makes me ponder the reason why I hadn’t looked at this in this light previously. This piece really did turn the light on for me personally as far as this subject matter goes. Nevertheless at this time there is actually 1 issue I am not too comfortable with and whilst I attempt to reconcile that with the actual main theme of the issue, allow me observe just what all the rest of the visitors have to point out.Very well done.
