So you’ve been extremely excited and have started blogging with the hope of become a successful pro blogger and entrepreneur and start living the internet lifestyle. You see many other successful bloggers and decide that you need to have that success too. However, in many cases, it is not quite as simple as copying exactly what the pro bloggers may be doing or have done to become successful online. It may suit you better if you focus on topics and a niche that is just right for you and complements your personality and experience.
Here is a quick guide that will help you to decide if your niche is right for you and how you can make the most out of it.
Define Your Goals
Before you embark on any worthwhile venture, you need to decide the purpose for doing it and what you need to achieve. For example, if you have a goal to make 1 Millions dollars within a year, its best that you choose a niche that is fast paced, developed and is of a reasonable size to ensure there will be enough readers / customers.
Taking the time to seriously think about and decide your goals with help to make it clearer whether your niche is right for you or not.
Is Your Niche Saturated?
A saturated niche makes it extremely challenging to find opportunities and can quickly lead to blogger burnout, especially if you’re not passionate about what you’re doing. Take the time to investigate whether your idea is well known or over-marketed while looking for unique opportunities to present yourself through blogging. There are some who say that blogging has become saturated but I think that it is not since it allows you to reach out to an unlimited number of sub niches.
So, don’t follow fads but proactively seek the right information that will help you to make a smart long-term decision.
Can You Offer Something Unique or Ground Breaking?
After finding a niche that interests you, think of ways that you can offer something unique. What’s the point of doing the same things everyone else is doing? Or if you decide to blog about popular topics, ensure that your content is delivered in a unique way and provides more timely information than everyone else.
If you take note, the most successful entrepreneurs brought something new and ground breaking to their niche. Set your sights upon this level of success and never settle for less.
Is Your Niche Seasonal?
In-depth research will help you to decide the type of niche you’re in. Although long-term usually yields the best results, there is nothing wrong with blogging for seasonal traffic. For example, blogging for World Cup Football can be a very profitable venture even if its just for a few months every 4 years. If executed correctly and early, you can easily dominate search engines and gain thousands of visitors in a short period of time. These visitors are oftentimes looking for news, sports merchandise and other related affiliate products and will follow your blog closely throughout the game series. Take advantage of these events and make some killer sales.
Seasonal visitors who are hungry to buy can present some lucrative opportunities for bloggers. In this scenario, its good to have a few blogs that come alive when the various seasons begin.
Can You See Yourself In It Forever?
If you can see yourself enjoying blogging in your niche for the rest of your life then I would say you have a passion for what you’re doing right there and is one of the key ingredients. If you’re already blogging in a niche that you’ve lost interest for and find it difficult to come up with ideas to write, you may need to rethink your position. If your blog becomes work that you dread then its time to make a change.
You will experience the greatest level of success and fulfillment when you blog within a niche you’re passionate about, guaranteed!
Conclusion & Discussion

Great post man!
So many people think that finding a niche and being successful in it is as simple as finding the niche itself, but factors like whether or not you have an interest in that niche and whether or not you have anything new to bring to the table, really matter. Great post man!

I blog in the ‘beginning blogger’ niche, and it fits me just right because of my personal experiences as a beginner. I provide just as much inspiration as I do information, so that sets me apart a bit from others in the niche. Plus, I have a vat load of passion for the subject and love my readers like crazy

A saturated niche is not a bad thing as per one of my previous articles (don’t ask me which as I write way to much and have no idea). Too much competition is a bad excuse because of the amount of bloggers who drop-out. If you pick a crowded niche, you can still make it big by sticking with it.

You’ve made a good point there Brandon. That’s why I say, do lots of research. If that’s done, one would realize that the success rate is low because of bloggers simply not sticking to their game plan for the long run.

I am new to internet marketing and that is the niche I have chosen in the beginning to blog about. I am basically sharing my journey with others in hopes that they can relate and learn from my mistakes.
I hope to go into another niche in the future but feel it’s important to learn about the basics of internet marketing in general because that will definitely help me as I move into other niches.
I agree, it is very important to find what you are passionate about because it will show through in everything you do!

That’s an excellent strategy. Internet marketing is a skill that is required to market and be successful in every niche. Once you master this, you will find that your future ventures are 100 times easier to execute.

I think the last part (seeing your self in it forever) speaks a lot.
That’s why I think many of the best niches to go into are either ones you already have an interested or well upon your way with it.
Not to toot my own horn but I do talk a little wide range in terms of niche but I would say the overall theme is entrepreneurship.
This is mainly in part from my freelancing and having the opportunity to work at a small business which allows me to test out all the various methods I talk about.
For everyone else, I think you should definitely consider the message of going long term with it.
What if you went 180 and decided to do a completely unrelated field? Are you going to be interested in it in 5 years let alone 6 months?
This isn’t to deter you from blogging but you’ll definitely feel a *click* when you cover the subjects you’re truly passionate about – it shouldn’t feel forceful.

Thanks for this post.
Seeing yourself in it forever… that’s a great measure of someone’s passion for their subject and a good indication of whether their going to be able to last the whole race.
I also agree with Jean that sometimes it helps if you are actually part of your own market.
Jean deals with beginning bloggers and has a real connection with other beginners because she still knows what that felt/feels like.
I’m the same, starting up in internet marketing and having some success and sharing with people how I’m going about it.
As long as you’ve got integrity and are truly willing to help people, as you do here, then I think that you’ve got a real chance of making it as a blogger, as long as you keep up that passion.
Passion rules!

Great post.
I never heard about the ‘seasonal’ niche. Looks like a good idea.
Currently I am in the make a website niche and internet marketing niche, though you could say that they overlap each other.
I really have an interest in the web, and that is why I am in these niches.

Evidently, this is a great sum up of how to find the right blogging niche to start on.
However, I would like to add on some tip of my own for relatively some of your points.
Defining a goal is of the utmost importance when it comes to working on anything. However, be sure that you only set realistic goals! Sure it’s great to think big and such but giving yourself too much hope on something that would seem quite impossible to accomplish on within the selected time frame may risk having you getting too obsessed in achieving it.Being obsessed is no good to even begin with. Therefore be realistic. Start of small if you must. Doesn’t matter. You will grow eventually.
When it comes to setting up a business online even to blog for money, eventually getting to work on something that you may be profoundly interested on is an added advantage. However, you should consider if it is ever a profitable recurring niche to work on too. If you have to choose between picking to write on something that you enjoy but unprofitable with something that profits but you have no initial interest on, which would you pick ?
I would go for the second choice which is getting a profitable. Because for me, comes to the end of the day, it is still about making money online. For me, i am not afraid on working on something new. Interest for me is essentially what i would have to cultivate in time.
Keep up the good work, my friend.
cheers

That was a nice and informative article. Thanks for sharing it with us. Definitely finding the best niche is an important factor. If you are not really passionate for a niche, then better stay away from it. At first you might be able to produce some articles, but later you will easily get out of ideas and inspiration, which will turn the whole ordeal into a time waste. A good research is definitely the key.

It’s always good to blog about what you know and have passion in.
A USP is highly important, with out that, you simply wont stand out from the crowd, especially in a very popular niche.

Great post indeed. It seems like all niches are saturated these days but I think there is room for for bloggers even in a crowded niche. Like you said, you have to be different to make an impact. For me I have 2 blogs , one is in the blogging niche (very crowded) and the other is a career blog (crowded but not as crowded as blogging/tech niche)

I think the biggest thing here is if you can stay with it for a long time. I say this because we all grow and change and even some topics that we’re truly passionate about we become unsatisfied with after a while.
It’s good to decide on a topic that you truly have enjoyed for a long while and hopefully will in the future.
