As I began to prepare for this post, I realized something about my blog strategies. I could be doing so much more research to really impact my results. Using Google’s Keyword Tool, I made a startling discovery, (for myself anyways!) My global marketing strategy sucks. You don’t have to agree here, I see some of you nodding your heads! Let me explain.
I was researching the keyword “best marketing strategies.” All fine and dandy. The results are what perplexed me. First I searched in the USA. Then I did a worldwide search. You know what? 100%, yes 100% of the searches for that phrase came from the USA. There were no other regions that checked in on this keyword. While there are occasions that I target the USA, I am looking to make a global marketing move. Think of the impact a global strategy will have on your brand. Huge. Mouth watering to be exact.
What I can’t figure out is why the USA is the only population searching “best marketing strategies.” What are they doing in these other regions to market themselves? Do they have a better grasp of the concept then we do? Below are just a few of the results.
- United States 100
- Argentina 0
- Armenia 0
- Afghanistan 0
Now obviously this is just the “A” results, however as you can see the USA claims 100% of these searches. The trend was also consistent for the year with no real fluctuation, so we Americans are searching this consistently. The issue I see with this is that we may be stuck on Domestic Marketing, rather, we are confining ourselves to a particular zone. We need to focus on expanding our reach and developing our own global marketing strategies. In order to be successful, you need to be able to promote your brand around the globe. For example, Nike. Every country in the world knows the Nike symbol. The brand does not have to change to succeed in different markets. Blogs have a huge advantage here due to their increasing popularity. Anyone with internet access can read a blog.
So how do we market globally with our blogs? The first step is to obviously target keywords that have an actual worldwide usage. The search term “internet marketing strategies” produces worldwide results. Now the competition might be moderate to high, but I think you get what I mean. You can drill down further on those terms, just be sure they will have a global impact.
In order for your global marketing strategy to succeed, you need to understand the 4 P’s of marketing. For a detailed description, read this article. Here are the four P’s: product, price, placement and promotion. We have our product, our blog. We have our prices for a variety of things. We utilize seo, keywords and such for our placement. That placement “P” is key for a global strategy. Doing proper worldwide keyword research is imperative to your success. If India is not searching for “toy poodles” then you are not reaching the market using toy poodles as you keywords. Find out what is important to other countries. Finally, we promote our blog/site. This is a very basic depiction of the concepts in marketing. I am still learning this for myself and thought sharing my experience might be useful to you. I will continue to analyze the results of a more specialized keyword research plan and report back.
What I learned from this research is that I was confining my blog without even knowing it. Now a lot of you may already know this and utilize a global concept, but for those in the position I am in, I hope this helps you. I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this!

thanks for stopping by and reading my post!
Hi Lisa,
I am based in the UK, most of my traffic well, 72% comes from the states. The rest is made up from Europe and Australia. I blog about Blogging so I guess that my US cousins are more into Blogging or making money from Blogging than Europeans. Or is it just the vast size of the US. If China allowed outside Internet would this change. Would have to put a translator on the blog then.
A good bit of research can really pay off sometimes.

Hey,
Awesome article you have here! I love the fact that you took a much different approach in developing this article. It is a different type of article and that’s possibly why it stand out so much too me.
I have to agree with you, because everyone should be targeting the whole world instead of a specific region. Why not spread your voice to all corner of the web?
Thanks.
God bless,

Well for the mainstream niche, I think its important to have global marketing strategies since we don’t really rent office space where we can simply direct people who are interested in doing business with us.
But for some certain micro-specific niche, I think its better to just focus on a very local demographic that they must target very well in order to profit.

Thank you for reading and your kind words!
I must admit that I don’t give much thought to geography when I blog. I could probably improve in this area. But also I wonder if it’s a limitation of language as well. I don’t have the ability to do SEO in Chinese or a multitude of other languages besides english. Would a google translation get the phrases right so that it’s optimized?

Thats an excellent question Richard…I may have to look more into this theory!
Very nice share Ms. Lisa, I agree with you about the 4 P’s of marketing, without it your propose is automatically zeroed out. I’m also still learning about the promotion and hoping I’m on the right track. Although, global promotion is indeed a huge work we still have to consider what is needed / not needed on a specific area.
