As bloggers we have a lot of responsibilities… not only for what we publish on our own blogs, but how we present ourselves in life and communicate with others online. Last week I was in New York City to present at BlogWorld Expo, one of my favorite conferences about blogging and online marketing. The event continues to grow in size every year, and it’s always great to present to bloggers from all around the world and actually get to meet face to face with many of your own blog readers.
This year I was also fortunate enough to meet up with Fox News while on the exhibit floor. I took some time to talk with them and did a short interview. The questions were quick, easy and all over the place… everything from blogging, making money online, social media and technology and of course a little bit of politics. With all of that information, Fox News would throw it all together and create something that would air the following Monday (earlier last week) on The O’Reilly Factor on Fox News.
After the interview process, one would expect to see an informative segment on BlogWorld and the power of blogging and internet marketing, however it was the complete opposite. Instead Fox News went with another direction and created a comedic recap of the event, which also lead to bloggers seeming like they are “out of the loop” when it comes to politics and real world issues, and instead just a bunch of boring nerds living with their parents and blogging their lives away. I agree it was funny and they did do a good job with the funny clips added in through out the video, which makes the segment relate to the average viewer of The O’Reilly Factor. I greatly appreciate getting the exposure on national television, but they also did a disservice to their viewers by not introducing them to the power of internet marketing and blogging.
Take some time to watch the video and have a good laugh and experience a little bit of the activity on the BlogWorld exhibit hall floor. However, at the same time it’s important to ask yourself, as a blogger would you consider yourself out of the loop? As an affiliate marketer, blogger and online entrepreneur for over 15 years… I simply can not afford to be out the loop at all. Can you?
Be sure to visit the Fox News web site and watch the full video, then shoot Bill O’Reilly an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and give him your feedback on the video and if they should have taken a different approach.
