Fixing The Bloggers Bug

Fixing The Bloggers Bug

There is one major problem or bug with most bloggers and I call it “the bloggers bug“. We all know software packages are programmed to perform some functions in order to make people’s life easier, but one major thing is that a software bug might cause the software user to lose more than the software will have saved. For example, a bug in a software can lead to you having problems with the operating system thereby leading you to format the whole system which in turn means you will lose a lot of your files.

What is The Bloggers Bug?

This does not need a whole page to write about it, the bloggers bug is what makes most bloggers fail and what makes them not to succeed.

How can the Bloggers Bug Affect Bloggers?

The major thing is not the bug itself but how it can affect bloggers. If you are a blogger infected by the bloggers bug then it can impair your overall success because it can destroy your reputation and make you useless in the views of many people.

How to Overcome The Bloggers Bug

It will be of no use talking about the bloggers bug without giving any valid solution or advice on how to overcome this dangerous disease. I will be giving some tips on how to overcome the bloggers bug below.

1. Take it Easy!

I have been in this space as a blogger for sometimes now and even though I have spent only some months I have seen a lot of bloggers come and go. I have seen many bloggers come with the speed of light, they will come with passion and burning fire, they will even preach to you about being passionate and why you should never quit blogging only for you to see them disappear in no time.

I have noticed some of these bloggers and I have discovered why they fail.

All of us are not born genius and we both have our special talents, because I have written over 200 guest posts does not mean you will do the same without impairing your blogging goals. Blogging takes wisdom and being creative, it is true some methods work if done agressively but it is very important not to let these things kill you.

Many of the bloggers I have seen come and go are not just bloggers who are not progressing but they are bloggers who have made an impact and have gotten some traction in the short time they have been blogging but you will just see them disappear, the question now is, why? They are suffering from what I call, “passion death” or “writers block” or many other problems you might think about but one major truth is that they have overworked themselves, I mean they have done more than they should do and they later find it difficult to cope.

Writing is not as easy as people think and to go here and there to write might leave you confused without having anymore blog idea to continue. I have faced this problem and it makes me feel like abandoning my blog, the only reason I am still moving along is because I think God has destined me to rock the blogging world :) , sincerely!

Take it easy, some diseases are irrecoverable and one major type of these is that faced by those who don’t take things easy. Don’t try to do everything once and for all but rather break things down into bits and bytes and then work on it – don’t destroy your lifetime goal because you want everything now.

2. Restructure Your Content

While am not writing this post to tell you some rehashed junks or to just fill up space but I think it will be better to tell you the truth because your success is my success (and surely Dev’s own :) ).

One major thing about me is that I like tweaking and testing things and I don’t bloody care what the consequences will be. I have written a blog post that went popular overnight and eventually impacted my general blog traffic and subscriber base and I have also written some kinds of crap ranging from personal rubbish to fill the space crap types of post.

I know a lot of you still do the same and I am not here to blame or crtiticize you, all I am saying is that you have to restructure your content.

I love writing everyday because the more I write the more traffic I get but I have come to discover with time that I have written posts that has more traffic than five of my posts combined, so why not keep writing that type of post?

I have also noticed that the more regular quality content I write the more links, contacts and respect I get from out there.

It is always important to write great content because this is the real secret to your blog’s success.

3. Have Great Goals – Not Fueled By Money

As I told you earlier, it has gotten to a situation where I started writing rubbish on my blog but I knew I was writing rubbish not because anybody told me but because I have trained and aligned my senses with the right goals and that helped me know I was off-track.

It is very important to have great goals and not just any type of goals, many people’s goals are fueled by money and its love and that is why they can and will never succeed (excpet they change).

Money is good and I am not trying to tell you to hate having money but I am trying to tell you that your goal should not be based on monetary results – the love of money is very dangerous.

The reason I am always able to retrace and keep moving anytime I am off-track is because I have great goals not fueled by money and the major goal of my blog is not to help me fill my pockets but to help impact lives – this on its own will bring enough money.

4. Have A Great Mentor!

I don’t have a mentor, but please listen! The reason for having a mentor is that your mentor will impact your general blogging life.

My most respected blogger and someone I so much look up to is Steve Pavlina, it was through his article that I started my blog and because f him I am where I am today.

My reason for saying you must have a great mentor is that your mentor will affect your blogging life on the long run. If you all know Steve Pavlina, you will notice he is not someone who just write anything but a blogger who has passion for the people and who always write high, valuable, impactful articles.

There is something in your readers and your article should be a driving force that will propell that thing inside them thereby leading to them doing something.

It is true there are a lot of successful bloggers but I would not advise you to choose a blogger as your mentor due to his achievements but you should choose someone who knows what he is doing and someone who will never mislead you.

5. Get Traffic

Another common traits among most bloggers who fail is that they don’t have results, and I mean it!

There are a lot of solid tutorials on how to get traffic and many of them have solid tips in them, I even have a book dedicated to that and you must get it! download it here.

Having results is the driving force towards many bloggers success and without results you won’t go far. Don’t try to just stop here without taking action, work towards getting results.

Over To You!

Hi Onibalusi,

I think many people suffer from this problem. I really like how you provided practical solutions to these problem.

I can resonate with the ‘take it easy’ point, as I had this problem. But then soon overcame it, by taking it easy.

I also like how you said that money should not be your sole goal. It is very easy to fall pray to only having money as the goal.

Onibalusi Bamidele August 18, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Exactly Nabeel,

Many bloggers get started with great passion and burning fire only to quit at their height of success, why? They are not taking things easy!

Pumama August 18, 2010 at 8:34 am

I think the most important bloggers bug is they don’t have a plan to do,a passion and a consistency

Adam Paudyal August 18, 2010 at 1:18 pm

hey Omni !!!

Great post. I have been a victim of ‘the bloggers bug’ too. Had I not reassessed myself and my priorities…a come back would have not been possible. Just like Evelyn said I had to kick the bug’s butt……

So very true when you say that….even the bloggers that have created some traction and were having a decent impact in the blogging community…have suddenly disappeared….It has to be because either they overworked themselves or they simply couldn’t sustain their passion or they have what I call a pseudo-passion (usually when they are just motivated by making money online)…..

Onibalusi Bamidele August 19, 2010 at 11:36 am

Exactly Adam,

Yeah! Many of those who had the bloggers bug and died already had some impact, they just can’t continue.

Ana August 18, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Very good advice indeed, Onibalusi.

The only thing I would add is Don’t even start blogging until you look at your capabilities thoroughly and make sure this is something you can stick with.

Hi Onibalusi,
Great post!

I really liked the way that you not only pointed out the issue of the blogger’s bug but you offered some practical solutions.

Passion is a great thing to have in my opinion. It informs your writing and makes it better.

Passion will wax and wane though. You need a lot more than that to be successful.

Onibalusi Bamidele August 19, 2010 at 11:39 am

Exactly Steve,

Being passionate about the subject of your blog is really very important because it is what keeps you moving in times of trouble.
