How to Enjoy and Have Fun on Facebook

Today’s post is all about how to have fun on Facebook. There is just too much negativity in the news lately so let’s have some cheerful article here instead. Now, chances are that you already have a Facebook account. So what do you normally do when you logged into Facebook? Here is a look at a few of the fun things you can do in this extremely popular social networking site, which by the way, has attracted more than 600 million active users.

Fun #1: Getting In Touch

The initial purpose of setting up Facebook was for Harvard undergraduates to get in touch with each other and to make new friends. For Malaysians, they sure know how to take it from there. You see, according to an international survey company TNS, Malaysians have on an average 233 Facebook friends, which is one of the highest in the world. They sure are very popular, it seems.

So, go ahead and ask your family and relatives, your friends, your college mates, your colleagues, your old school friends, your neighbors, your friends’ friends and their friends to be your friends. I think you got the message.

Fun #2: Make Announcements

Getting married? Just change jobs? Feeling lonely? Got yourself the latest IPad2? And you want to inform all your friends about it? Just update your Facebook status and your friends will see it immediately. It is a matter of minutes before someone will comment on or “like” your status. While you are at it, why not put up some funny status just for the fun of it. Or some thoughtful questions like “Are we really alone in this universe?”

Isn’t this fun? Haha…

Fun #3: Upload Photos / Videos and view Others’ Photos / Videos

Admit it, you just love to check out your friends’ photos. With Facebook, we can now find out what our friends had been doing, whether they had put on weight, where they had gone for holidays or who they are going out with. At the same time, you could also upload photos of your backpacking trip in Africa or the pictures of the 8-course dinner that you prepared for your family single handedly.

Video sharing is also an interesting feature allowed by Facebook. You could upload a video of your 1 year-old nephew attempting to walk for the first time. Your grandmother living 300km away will appreciate it. Or perhaps you found a funny video that you thought would brighten your friends’ day, so go ahead and share it too. This is pretty fun too, right not?

Fun #4: Play Games

There are so many games in Facebook that caters to the many Facebook users. You could be building a city or running a restaurant or be a farmer or stepping in the shoes of an ancient warlord on a war quest! Word of caution though, these games can be very addictive for I know of many Facebook gamers have sneaked some of their working or studying hours to play these games.

Fun #5: Engage In Real Time Chats

This works just like MSN and Yahoo’s messenger. You can talk to your online friends on real time at any time you wish at the comfort of your home. And the best part is it’s free too. You can now chat with your cousin who is currently studying overseas or that new colleague at work or a long lost ex-schoolmate or even total strangers too! But do be careful when you befriend strangers. Be sure that they are genuinely interested to be friends before providing more personal information.

Fun #6: Online Shopping

With the growing number of small businesses setting up Facebook accounts, many consumers had shifted their online shopping to these Facebook sites. You could easily view the latest products and post your inquiries, and even chat directly with the store owners. Since most store owners check their Facebook messages often, this means you get your questions answered pretty quickly too! Shopping is made more social and fun on Facebook!

With so many fun things to do on Facebook, 24-hours in a day is sometimes simply just not enough! Facebook provides entertainment for all walks of life on just one site that it creates a kind of Facebook-addiction phenomenon. I know many who have Facebook as their homepage. And when you go walking around the malls, you are bound to see people Facebooking through their iPhones while waiting for their partners to complete shopping or on laptops at gourmet coffee chains. Facebook has truly taken networking to an all new level.
