Content Spinning Vs Idea Spinning: Naughty Vs Nice

Article marketing field benefits a lot from the word “spinning”. Well they call it article spinning. According to Wikipedia, the following is the definition of article spinning

Article spinning is a search engine optimization technique by which blog or website owners post a unique version of relevant content on their sites. It works by rewriting existing articles, or parts of articles, and replacing elements to provide a slightly different perspective on the topic. Many article marketers believe that article spinning helps avoid the feared penalties in the Search Engine Results pages (SERP) for using duplicate content.

Since the word “search engine optimization” is there it easily catches our attention. Anyone running a blog or website is sort of “compelled” to promote their site. And, one of the working ways to promote one’s business and also reap SEO benefits is through article marketing.

The naughty version ….

It is here where article spinning gets in. Article spinning is used for any one or both of the following reasons

1. The blog owner writes a blog post and he/she want to advertise the post. So bits or parts of that post are repurposed/spun and then submitted to article directories. Those articles serve as adverts for the original post, because those articles that are spun will require readers to click through to read the original article. In short, those articles are incomplete or do not provide full information.

2. The blog owner just wants to build backlinks and hence uses the post he/she has written for the blog, spins it into multiple versions and posts it in article directories. So one blog post gets various forms and is used for building backlinks.

While all this is perfectly OK, we should admit the fact that rewriting or spinning articles for any reason essentially results in dumping the web with more and more content which is already there.

Article spinning is done mainly by replacing words with their synonyms, and/or rewriting the introduction and conclusion paragraphs. In this way one article can be rewritten to multiple articles.

After getting the biggest punch from the Panda, the articles directories received a major hit for this reason; the article directories were flooded with repurposed and rewritten content.

So article spinning is naughty in this sense – nothing new to the internet. Just the well established and old idea takes different forms and is used for link building and advertising purposes.

Now.. the nice version-

Instead of spinning the articles why don’t we spin the ideas? Well, this is the “nice” version of the naughty article spinning.

Let’s see how to do it.

In order to spin an article, one needs to

1. rewrite the intro and the last paragraphs of the article-

When you write a blog post with an idea, you start with an introduction (motivation or the purpose of the article), then discuss some points and then conclude.

Now keeping the points intact, you can find a different motivation for the same post. This alternate motivation or the problem can also be addressed by the same points you mentioned in the original post, with slight modifications, of course.

2. replace words with their synonyms

Every idea you discuss in the original post can be translated into multiple forms. So keeping the motivation of the post intact, you can play with changing the forms of the tips or ideas you discuss in the post.

3. make multiple versions

Every blog post can lead to at least 10 blog posts. Well, 10 may be a big number for some and a small number for some. If you are a good and consistent writer, every blog post idea can be brainstormed to lead to at least 10 ideas.

This works for me. You can try to approach the problem with a different perspective, give conclusions on different perspectives, discuss the pros and cons of the tips you suggest, discuss statistics on the usage of your tips, discuss what other people (and bloggers) are saying about this problem and so on.

The possibilities are actually endless.

Every blogger is dependent on article marketing for various reasons. So we are kinda forced to spin articles to be submitted to various article directories. There is a naughty and nice version of the spinning method.

The naughty version is to spin the article itself while the nice version is to spin the idea behind every article to get multiple articles.

Both these methods will help you the same way in building backlinks. But when it comes to providing value, building authority and establishing expertise, idea spinning wins.
