Cloud computing refers to the technology that is used to maintain data and applications through the internet and remote servers. It applies to web based applications and third party file storage remedies which allows the user to access files and programs on different devices regardless of their geographical location since applications and files exists in the ‘cloud’ and not in the hard drive of the personal computers. This means that the users do not have to use their personal computers, instead they can use other connected devices. Amongst the fields that can utilize cloud computing to make their operations more efficient include businesses.

When applied in business, cloud computing enables the workforce to readily collaborate with their partners thus working more efficiently. This means that the employees can move to different regions in the field and still be able to work as a team with easy collaboration. As a result, employees can be dispatched to different areas and still be able to work in uniformity. Furthermore, businesses with various branches in separate geographical regions all over the world can be able to harmonize their operations and activities through utilization of cloud computing.

Another benefit that a business utilizing cloud computing has over those that does not is that there is no need to buy and maintain costly and energy draining servers. This is because the business will not need to invest in IT security management, software updates, licensing protocol and IT administration since the cloud computing provider covers all these issues. Consequently, the business will be able to channel the funds that would have been used in effecting these obligations to other uses. Furthermore, the business administrators are able to concentrate on improving other sectors of the business.

Cloud computing can also be beneficial to relatively smaller businesses that have high levels of employees trust. This is achieved by the business providing a community accessible password and username which is sufficient to manage documents which are regularly backed up in a physical hard drive. This means that the small community of employees can be able to access the information hence enabling them to work in unison. However larger businesses should utilize cloud computing that requires every employee to have their personal passwords and user name so as to easily determine which employees have access to which file.

Many employers and business administrators usually struggle to monitor the activities of their work force. This especially happens when employees use work time to perform other activities which are not work oriented thus reducing their productivity and wastes the business time. With cloud computing, employers can use the diverse features to establish facts such as; when various employees reported and left work by checking the time in which they logged in and logged out. This is applicable to the jobs that employees must be logged in so as to perform their obligations. These features are not meant to infringe on the employees’ privacy, but they are utilized to ensure that employees do not desert their duties without prior permission from their employers.
