Some cheap tools to consider (Photo: ecastro)

If you’re looking to improve your online presence, almost any SEO company you’re eyeing probably makes a pretty penny selling their premium services. While these services tend to be quite valuable, as they help businesses increase their rankings in the SERPs and enhance their visibility online, they can be costly to the point of being prohibitive for some.

Fortunately, it is possible to succeed without paying the exuberant fees that often accompany SEO services from established firms. There are many options that you can undertake yourself in order to improve your online ranking. These tools will allow you to boost the visibility of your website without paying, well … anything!

SEO Browser

If you want to see your website in the eyes of the major search engines, then SEO Browser is your insider viewpoint. This free tool offers both basic and advanced functionality, giving you instant access to comprehensive reports that allow you to understand the various components of your site that influence ranking and visibility.

Having the ability to see your site on a performance level will provide insight as to which areas of your site need improving and allow you to plan accordingly.

Google Keyword Tool

If you can’t afford to splurge on the popular and premium Wordtracker, the Google Adwords Keyword Tool is a fine alternative. Similar to Wordtracker, Google Adwords Keyword Tool provides suggestions of best keywords for your SEO program. While it was originally designed for AdWords, it has many beneficial uses beyond advertising campaigns and will assist in choosing the optimal keywords for your site for both site pages and blog development.

Live Keyword Analysis

Google has recently been cracking down on so-called “web spam”, resulting in content writers needing to be extremely cautious when inserting keywords into their articles and posts. If you go overboard, you run the risk of actually losing visibility due to penalties.

What I like about Live Keyword Analysis is that it allows you monitor keyword density right there in real-time – and it couldn’t be easier to use. This ensures you won’t accidentally create content that could be penalized for keyword stuffing.

Open Site Explorer

Developed by SEO company and software specialist SEOmoz, Open Site Explorer is a great free tool to turn to when you want to know what sites are linking to your pages. Open Site Explorer gives you the ability to directly compare your links against the sites with whom you are competing. This tool is ideal for optimizing your link building strategy, and also provides a viable competitive analysis as well.

Google Analytics

Google’s analytics solution delivers rich insights into both traffic activity and the overall effectiveness of your marketing strategy. Best of all—this is a free premium software with enterprise-class features! Its abilities include everything from tracking unique visits to analyzing the visibility of your domains. And since its price (or lack thereof) makes this tool accessible to everyone, the Google Analytics software is one you definitely want in your toolkit.

Stand Out and Be Seen!

Choosing the right SEO provider can either provide a massive return on investment, or be a terrible waste, if you do not choose wisely. Should the DIY road be your route of choice, it should be comforting to know that there are more than enough cheap tools available to help you find the way to increased visibility.

Any other tools you’ve found to help increase your online presence for a cost-effective price?

Google Analytics is a must for every website. It’s surprising to me how many sites don’t have it set up. It’s important to understand how your website is performing in order to make changes based on data.
