When we started designing and developing our innovative social media hub Twimbow we had in mind, since day one, that it had to be very different from other similar solutions out there. This is, probably, the reason why some blogs called Twimbow the “Apple of Social Media Dashboards”, since it offers a completely new approach in the way people interact with their Twitter friends and consume new content and interesting news they discover.

Twimbow is currently being used in over 120 countries worldwide by marketers, bloggers and users (both power users and “normal” users) who want to get the most of their Twitter stream, remove noise and focus on what is really important for them in terms of users, tweets and news.

Today I would like to use this space to tell you something about four Twimbow features not many users heard of or actually tried out (yet).

1) Skins

Did you know you can change the way Twimbow looks like? You actually have a few options. First of all, you can choose whether to use a compact view (two columns) or a full view (three columns). You can choose that from settings, just turn “Compact Mode” ON from the second settings tab (called “layout settings”).

Secondly, if you don’t like the default dark grey skin, you can activate the “light” one. Same tabe as above, just click on “Light”.

Third element you can configure is the font size. The default one could be small if you use a big screen. Just select “medium” or “big” (this option is in the 2nd tab as well).

Last but not least, you can change the appearance of the main top bar. First of all, you can choose between a large one or a small one. Secondly, you have 8 different skins to choose from. Personally, I like the orange one and the black one. What do you think?

2) Rich Tags

On Twimbow, every single piece of content people share looks better. It’s not only about the color, it’s about stuff that, on Twimbow, can turn into something cool Examples? Rich tags. Some tags, in Twimbow, are shown with a small icon you can click on to “generate” a new event. What do I mean?

For example, try the followings and let me know (leave your comments below):

#rainbow #cloud #angrybirds #sunny #ilovetwimbow #rain #xmas

Moreover, we support many different “event tags” that are related to tech/social media events and that give you an overview about an event, location, dates and a photo stream about the ongoing or past event. Here is an example from the recent Mashable Media Summit (you can see how the tweet looks like in Twimbow and what you can see if you click on the Mashable logo):

3) Filters, Filters, Filters

Too much noise? Too much stuff you don’t care of? Just filter it. On Twimbow, filtering is very easy and powerful. There are three main ways to do that:

Noise Killer:

it’s the third tab on the settings pane. You can simply create “sets” of keywords you want to filter and enable / disable each of those set. You can see an example in the image below. Any tweet containing one of the keywords / phrases in the set will be filtered out and you won’t see it.

Anti-spam:

you can enable it for each of the Twitter accounts you are managing on Twimbow. It will filter out all the mentions you receive by Twitter users with 0 followers / following and containing a link only.

Mute:

muting one ore more users is very easy. Just create a new colored label called “Mute”, assign that label to the users you want to mute and uncheck it from the home buzz. Easy right?

4) Visual and Audio Notifications

If you use Twimbow on Chrome, you will be able to get visual and audio notifications for various types of messages. Mentions, Direct Messages and for any user/keyword/tag/list you are tracking in the monitor. You can easily enable them from settings and, one by one, by clicking on the red “speaker” for the monitor you want to get alerts from. In the example below, by clicking on the red speaker I will activate audio and visual desktop notifications for any new tweet by @thenextweb (and the speaker will turn green).

BONUS: realtime!

This is an exclusive bonus for the readers of this blog: it’s not really a hidden features, but in two weeks, Twimbow will turn into a realtime social media hub. We will enable the so-called Twitter “sitestreams” for every user so that any type of message will hit your Twimbow account in realtime. This is just the first of the many new cool features we will introduce before the end of the year, something that will make Twimbow very different from what you can see now. Curious? Just sign up and start using it, making sure to follow @twimbow and @filos on Twitter

Hope you enjoy Twimbow, for any question, don’t hesitate to drop me a tweet.

Steve Jobs 1955-2011

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve has lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor.
Jobs is survived by his wife, Laurene Powell, their three children Reed Paul, Erin Sienna and Eve, and a daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, from a previous relationship.

Here is the statement from his Family:

“Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.

In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve’s illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.

We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.” Source: Mashable

Today I found a site while browsing other sites that I must share with you. I don’t think many of you have heard of ThemeGrade. This is a WordPress theme directory which is so different from 99% of similar sites out there. This site makes it so easy to find WordPress themes like no others. Why do I say so? Simply put, there are 3 reasons why ThemeGrade is currently the best source when it comes to finding best WordPress themes.

1. It only selects the best theme in design. You won’t find low quality themes by appearance.
2. You will know which themes have the best coding by looking at the theme‘s coding score.
3. You will know which are the top 10 theme providers.
4. You can easily find the themes best suit your topic via the multiple-selection search, tag search or simply search via keywords.

Now there is one more reason to visit the site. For those with PR 2+ blogs, ThemeGrade will give you a copy of premium theme from one of the 11 leading providers.
If you answer is yes, then here is something you don’t want to miss:

Well, if you could just talk to one of these guys for a few minutes then you could learn one or two methods to better monetize your blogs by attracting more quality traffic.

I think you will NEVER have the chance to talk with a pro blogger for $6, not even if you only had one question to ask!

What I also like about “$365k Blog Traffic Formula” is the two additional interviews included as complimentary gifts.

What is Google Buzz?

So, what’s the Buzz? Google’s new social medium. It let’s you use your Google/Gmail account to automatically get into a network that encompasses all other Google/Gmail users.

We focused on making the sharing experience really rich by integrating photos, videos, and links. No more fuzzy little pictures: Buzz makes it easy to quickly flip through photos and experience them the way they were meant to be seen: big and full-resolution. And videos play inline so you can watch them without opening a new window.

Here’s a short video by Google demonstrating what Buzz can do -

Inbox integration

Connect sites you already use

Five years ago it was founded , cross-blog social networking widget MyBloglog. Yahoo will close down this service in January 2010, this is really sad and shocking news for me and for all Bloggers. I have read this news on write web And Chotoan. MyBloglog is great web communication to earn some money. I have joined this a month ago only . By Mybloglog I received little traffic and backlinks.

Eric Marcoulier – Co-founder of MyBlogLog:

“So much of your company’s long term sucess when it’s acquired is based on the amount of executive juice it has. The only way it survives and flourishes is if you have an executive champion who promotes it internally. Shortly after we were acquired we were transfered away from our champion and under someone who didn’t feel the same way about MyBlogLog. In those circumstances, things simply slow down…”

Mybloglog will be closed down? and Blogcatalog will become the best social networking widget for bloggers in 2010?

Here is a news from Yahoo about Closing down MyBlogLog

Chris Yeh – head of the Yahoo! Developer Network, has responded over at the YDN blog:

“Frankly, it’s no secret within Yahoo! that we’re actively discussing the future of MyBlogLog. However, it’s also true that we have not made any final decisions at this point. Is a shutdown on the table? Sure, that’s an option. But there are other options as well.”
