Anyone who works for, or in, an online business knows how incredibly valuable SERPS positions are. Being listed first in Google means you are bound to gain 55% of all available clicks while second place gains only 25% and the numbers decrease so dramatically that I’d rather be 10th then 7th because people sometimes click on the bottom result before moving to the second page (which they rarely do).
One thing I’ve found is that it is both difficult and tiresome to continue crafting the type of unique content that brings not only human eyes to your site, but Google bots as well. To that end, I’ve crafted a daily routine for myself to help me stay on my prescribed pace. Feel free to copy and work to fit it to your individual needs as I enjoy writing and can generally complete these tasks in about 4 hours.
Article Marketing: 4 articles written and submitted to top quality sites such as ezine articles.
Forum Profiles: I find and create 25 forum profiles each day (this is the closest to spam that I’m willing to go).
Forum Posts: I post 10 messages on different forums each and every day.
Press Release: I write 3 press releases per week and submit to a few different free directories. One of the best link juice to effort ratios available
Video: I craft 2 videos each and every week.
Podcast: I try and Podcast twice weekly although this often seems to fall by the waste side due to other projects.
Yahoo Answers: I answer 3 questions daily, this helps with SEO and also drives some decent traffic.
I socially bookmark 5 pages of my site each and every day on a different site such as Digg or Stumbleupon.
I request 1 link exchange per week and work to create 3 new pages on my website each and every day.
I write my own blog daily that consists of a mix of personal information, business information and information about my preferred niche (wine). I also try and write 1 guest blog for an authority site each and every day.
I hope you find this useful as the end result for my business has been fairly consistent movement in SERPS. We currently sit on the 1st page for a few of our highly competitive searches and expect to be in the top 3 within 3 months time.

This is a great to-do list that really makes a lot of sense. Thanks Mark.
For article marketing, do you use posts from your blog to publish on sites like ezine or do you re-write them? There is a huge debate on duplicate content on the web and I just wanted to hear your thoughts on this.

Robyn, It’s an interesting question in regard to duplicate content and certainly one that I don’t claim to have any definitive answer to right now. For quite some time I published my blog entries both places, although I’ve moved away from that of late, mostly because most of my articles have been winery profiles. I have posted some of those winery profiles on my main site and am currently trying to decide if the rest should go on, or be tweaked slightly.
Wow, you have a diverse and somewhat intense weekly/daily link building strategy. I think I will borrow some of these.
I have never had any luck with profiles. And yahoo answers is nofollow as of 6 months or so ago.
I am definitely going to check out press releases though, i know almost nothing about them.

Patrick,
Where are you getting the profiles from? I can make some suggestions if you’d like.
As for the no-follow attribute on Yahoo Answers, I’ve seen a few interesting studies by some folks I greatly respect over on Warrior Forum showing sites ranking using only no-follow links and a blank wordpress.com blog. At this point I’m inclined to say that we probably don’t really understand how Google handles no-follow, it’s my inclination that it doesn’t really exist.
Hello Mark, this is a great post with a great information provided. I think you have churned out a routine for me too with this and I will try to follow. I really do not know much about Press Release. Can you help me out about that.
.-= Shiva@Netchunks´s last blog ..How to Calculate the Price of my Website’s Link? =-.
I’m still working on my press release writing skills and I’m really trying out various free services for them. As an example of a previous release:
http://www.prlog.org/10547118-uncorked-ventures-wine-club-launches-online-wine-store.html
As you can see it’s a relatively new link and very quick to create, yet it sits on a PR 2 page.
Thanks Mark and thanks for providing me an example link. But I have always been skeptical about Press Release cos I feel Press Release can come as a handy SEO tool only for websites and not for blogs. I really wonder how one can make a Press Release for blogs, for Website it seems much easier.

It is a bit more difficult, but on your site I’d think about writing a press release about the Free SEO and Affiliate Marketing list you put out. You could basically state that Netchucks has released their first annual review of free online tools for marketers. Then add to your calendar and you’ll have a post ready for this time next year as well.
Hope that both helps and makes sense.
SEO is one of the most important parts of a website! So, it won’t be a waste of a time if we try to improve our SEO daily!

Definitely agree there. Long term I don’t think there is any more important aspect to a website then improving SERPS. It’s a long and difficult task, but well worth the effort.
That’s a lot of work! I wonder how you manage to find time for other things as well.
I feel tiring to blog daily, and to write 4 articles every day. I dont have the energy for link building after that.

Part of the advantage that I have over others involved in IM is that I have a business partner who is able to handle some of the daily tasks associated with our business such as returning customer phone calls, packing boxes for shipments etc. The articles can be difficult if you don’t have a good preset list of topics.
Good schedule, thanks for sharing..
I really need this..

That’s a pretty busy schedule, one that would be necessary if you were trying to run a successful online business. Lucky for me I blog for the fun of it and so I don’t need to keep this type of schedule.

Sometimes I consider starting a blog just for fun, my wife has also considered it since I tend to try and obtain her help while she is on breaks from teaching.
My own personal blog has in many ways turned less about the business and more about me personally and what I’m thinking. Writing my thoughts daily can definitely be cathartic.
That is a good to do list. Its true you have to put the work in to make it big time online.
Will try some of your methods.

that is Heck a lot of work ! you do each or week ! hope that is all it would take to maintain your position in the top pages of google search!

Well we’re currently building in SERPS, once we reach a time frame where we can maintain the work level will drop of substantially. The good part about my schedule is that much of it can be outsourced once we have more money then time (which will be a welcome change). Profile links and articles are easily outsourced for a small fee.
Mark,
That’s an interesting SEO schedule you have there. I’m getting into article marketing and don’t want to build links too quickly, as search engines can punish you for that.
What is considered “too many links, too quickly”?
.-= Moon Hussain´s last blog ..A Conversation That I Will Remember For the Rest of My Life =-.
Moon-
I don’t believe links can be built too quickly, at least not without the help of an automated program. As an example, the New York Times launched their wine club a few months back and ended up with over 10,000 links in the matter of a week to their brand new wine club page. Google didn’t penalize them, far from it in fact, they sit on the first page for virtually every search term right now.
This is a great list.
Thanks man, I will try to follow this but it seems like taking a lot of time.

Excellent and (shall I say) disciplined schedule. Kudos to you! I enjoy writing and sharing thought provoking ideas with people as well. At the moment, due to other responsibilities I’m in charge of, my time is limited and so am not able to get anywhere near your schedule. But I really enjoy seeing others who are better able to! Kudos once again!!

I am learning about SEO and these tips have come in handy to me! I haven’t learnt about the press release yet though, so that’s next on my list! Thanks for sharing.
Do you put your videos on youtube or your site? I have noticed that youtube gives you one dofollow link on your profile. On the youtube channel that gets the most embeds, my profile has pagerank. So not only do I get traffic, I also get pr.
Wow, You put a lot of work into hyping your blog. Hope it’s working out for you. I’m sure hard work pays off. Good post.
Great list. I do some similar tasks to keep my site ranking well. Good job
Great post and very helpful. I’m trying to work on my SEO and I really think a list will be very beneficial. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!
