As a new blogger are you finding it hard to prioritize? Well, I’ve been there and done that and I am still working on it, but one thing is for sure, the best thing you can do for yourself is take care of your own blog first, before you go out commenting and socializing on other blogs.
Here are 8 ways you can succeed while prioritizing your blogging duties.
#1 Take care of your own store front (blog) first. When your blog is new, you should be focusing on writing the best content that you can. Don’t worry about visiting other people and socializing. That will come later.
#2 Read the A-list blogs. While you’re learning your way around the blogsphere, take time to read blogs by those who are at the top of their game. This will help you stay focused on your blog and your purpose.
#3 Further your blogging education. You can do this by joining sites that offer bootcamps and information about how you can grow as a blogger as well as have a blog that someone will read.
#4 Stay off the social networking sites. Social networking sites are good, but they can also waste a lot of your time. Time that you should spend working on writing content for your blog. Before you know it, you’ve wasted hours on Twitter/Facebook and haven’t written one word.
#5 Stay away from blogging communities. These communities are fine, but they will not bring you the traffic that you ultimately will need to have a successful blog. Once you’ve gotten 10-15 posts under your belt, then you can consider being active on these sites, but not until you take care of your content first.
#6 Don’t burn the midnight oil. I wrote a post on WeBlogBetter entiltled “Blog Better by Getting Your Beauty Rest.” It is so easy to get caught up in doing other things besides actually writing, but you should always remember that what you can’t get done today, you can always do tomorrow.
#7 Work on your flagship content. If you don’t know what that is, then check out Chris Garrett’s e-book. After reading this, you will have ideas for content and e-books on the brain. So check it out.
#8 Prioritize your blog responsibilities. What makes a blog? Great content! So that means you must be writing content that will draw readers to your site, first and foremost. Even if you don’t have much traffic, you should keep writing. Your readers need content that will drive them to your site.
Conclusion
I know it sounds a bit selfish, but as a new blogger, trying to build credibility and compelling content, as well as make money online, you should be looking straight ahead. Never looking to the left nor to the right, but straight ahead. Writing and building content for your future readers.
If you are too busy socializing, how in the world do you expect to have steady traffic, loyal readers, good rankings and to make any money?
The choice is yours. Put off socializing until you have some good content under your belt.
Feel free to share any tips that you have for a new blogger.

Abhishek,
You should always do what works best for you. You know yourself better than anyone else. No one’s asking you to change your plan.
The point of this post is to get those newbies focused on building their own blog up first before they go out spending too much time socializing. I’m not saying don’t socialize or network, but one should always be mindful of time management.
You have a great plan and that’s good! Keep up the good work.
I think you will learn a lot form the e-book.
Take care!

I really don’t find the ebook useful.I already know that content is king hoping it will give some useful tips but there was nothing like that.
The ebook was like reading history makes me bore.I read half of it.
Hope others find ebook useful

Hey Abishek,
The advice given in this post would help most of the new bloggers and many of the veterans as well.
If you think the book that she suggested was also not that great, then I suppose that you are loooking for something earth-shatteringly new (which does not exist). In that case, I would suggest you to write a book and give it away for free with all the information that you think is useful.
Before anything else, try to be polite, courteous and professsional – I hope you would not disagree on this
Hi Polite,
Thank you for your comment! You are too polite!

I’d say that as a new blogger, don’t accept guest posts either and comment on other blogs a lot (but not spam) to establish your identity amongst your peers and new readers.

I had no clue who the author was when I clicked on this title, lo and behold!
Did you know number 8 signifies a new beginning? I can start over then!
Excellent advice – I always have this question however. Does this apply to every type of blogger they may not require a certain amount of traffic? Well, maybe we all want traffic or we would not publish it to the world wide web.
So should a blogger who blogs just for the fun or to occasional share something meaningful also follow these rules and what do you consider a “new” blogger?
Thanks, Evelyn, for all you do.

Hi Kissie,
Thanks for stopping by!
I think if you are blogging for fun and not overly concerned about traffic, then there is not need to worry.
I also think whatever type of blog your have or blogger you are, you must be passionate about your topic. Even if you are not striving to be a big baller
in the blogosphere, there will always be someone who will find what you share to be meaningful and helpful. We all should enjoy what we write about and have fun doing it, no matter what our goals are.
A new blogger, is someone who has just started a site with little to no content available. The new person is trying to build their blog by posting quality content that will drive people to their site.
Kissie, I don’t think you fall into the category as a new blogger.
I appreciate your constant support.
Take care!

Kissie´s last [type] ..Why Didn’t I Think of That
I have to agree with Laura. People tend to jump ahead without doing the basics. The basics is indeed having pillar contents in the blog. Having said that I also think basic promotion is necessary from the start. Wasting your time tweeting about what is going on every minute of your life is certainly a waste of time.
Thank you for the ebook.
Hi Adam,
Thanks for sharing! I believe basic promotion is fine too. Only after a person has a few quality posts under his/her belt.
Hope you enjoy the e-book!

It’s so easy for new bloggers to get overwhelmed by how much work there is to do, how many late nights you will have and how many times you will just want to give it all up, that’s what really gets most new bloggers

I don’t agree with 4 & 5 because I have learned so much from my communities on social sites and blogging communities. I think blogging in a vacuum isn’t good either. I have found so many awesome articles and blogs because of Twitter and Facebook. When I was first starting out, the ,majority of my traffic came from Twitter. Now it’s Google. I think you need to learn to balance everything, but younwill miss a lotmof conversations and great info if you ignore them completely.

Hi Michelle,
Blogging communities and social networking sites are good places to be (learning and networking), but the point I’m making to new bloggers, who are just getting started is that their content should come first. Once they’ve gotten their content published, then they can be more active in communities and other sites.
The big kicker is that if that have quality content, then when they network and promote, people will share their articles, comment, and engage with them even more.

Sure, you too take care. Happy blogging.
I think it is also very important to know what identity you want to build. That is, what is “my brand”? When people mention my name what is it that will quickly come to mind?
For Michael Pedzotti, I am branding my blog with the concept of “software tools for bloggers”. That includes plugins, addons and other items of software that will help bloggers be more effective both on screen and behind the scenes.
All these other tips are okay but without having a clear direction, all the prioritising in the world will amount to very little.
Michael.

I think you should not stay away from blogging community. For me balance is the key. Focus on what you want to achieve. You don’t always have to know “how”, just stay focused on what you want. Before you know it, the “how” will be there.

Hi Tej,
A new blogger who is trying to build a site, should not spend excess amounts of time networking. Once they have a few good quality posts under their belt, then they can network to their heart’s desire.
I’m not saying that it is unhealthy and stay away completely. Just prioritize and know what should be the main focus in the early stages of building a blog.
Take care!

Totally agree with the tip of staying away from blogging communities until you have something substantial to provide for your readers. 10-15 blog posts is a fair number I feel if those are indeed quality posts.
